Hi<br />
This is about fashion but not alopecia, though I think this will be of interest.<br />

That is very odd. There was certainly plenty of publicity when Gail Porter had alopecia, as she was such a high profile figure and was openly bald.

Interestingly enough, Chel Cambell from aaf.org.au just got a great story in one of the big fashion magazines, I think it was vogue. They gave a great wrap up on it! It looks like I've forgotten to upload it to our blog, I shall have to remedy this in the next few days ( <a href="http://www.transitionshair.com.au/transitions-blog/" target="_blank">http://www.transitionshair.com.au/transitions-blog/</a> ) it gave a very good coverage of the issues at hand and various means to help overcome hair…

As for something a little different, not specific to Alopecia, but Elle Canada magazine just did a big 6 page article on wigs - april edition. They featured one of my friends in the Transitions group, Michael Suba (www. continentalhair.com). It's worth taking a look at : ) That was an upsetting video M…tag:alopeciaworld.com,2011-04-01:2022678:Comment:6018872011-04-01T13:51:53.674ZSusan P aka DGADBShttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/SusanPeters

Yes...I've written to Oprah many times...no reply.<br></br>

TV is only interested in "fixing" us. Prime example: Shear Genius that I was on with AW member Kylie in 2008 (taped two months after I lost my hair). You can watch it on AW here, and I have a photo on my page:<br></br>

It was ALL about having the hairdressers help the poor, bald women who needed SO much help. It was an interesting experience and gave some needed publicity to AA...but, really infuriating. I would've reacted very differently now. I seem to recall (I could be…tag:alopeciaworld.com,2011-04-01:2022678:Comment:6013802011-04-01T01:44:34.357ZTuesdayhttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Tuesday
I seem to recall (I could be mistaken) either my MSN wig support group or the old MSN Alopecia Areata group - getting together an application and trying to get air time on Oprah. I could be wrong but I recall this idea being presented to their producers - the show didn't respond to the application. This was years ago and as I said - it's a distant memory.<br />

I'm turning into a real cynic but truthfully - I just don't think the fashion magazines will want to promote true self acceptance (i.e. embracing being bald or partially bald). Because once they tell women it's okay to be bald, essentially they are saying, "it's okay to be YOU". And where would that lead us ? The advertising and fashion and beauty industry would shut down ! lol. the last thing they want is for women to actually like their bodies, their faces and hair (or no hair) - too much money is at stake!<br />
<br />
See, i told you've become cynical in my old age. I'll just get back into my rocking chair now . Creak Creak. Ms Tuesday hit this one right…tag:alopeciaworld.com,2011-04-01:2022678:Comment:6016902011-04-01T01:32:04.170ZPamela Rossehttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/PamelaRosse
Ms Tuesday hit this one right on the proverbial nail head with the hammer big time.<br />
When we see individuals being interviewed on television or a magazine it is someone telling of their efforts to regain their hair & the negativity & shame which accompany's it.<br />

As time went on I found acceptance.<br />
I don't know maybe we should try a write & call in campaign to a selected talk show, let's just throw out Ellen, since Oprah is going off soon. See if we get an answer then have 3 or 4 alopecian sisters & brothers go on & talk about alopecia, there are those of us who venture out with & without cranial prothesis, life does go on after hair loss.<br />
It's just an idea. I believe I once bought a mag…tag:alopeciaworld.com,2011-03-31:2022678:Comment:6009522011-03-31T14:02:21.703ZTuesdayhttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Tuesday
I believe I once bought a magazine called "More" that featured an article about a woman losing her hair. I can't recall if she had alopecia areata or androgenetica. The entire article detailed her efforts to regain her hair. But there was a great deal of negativity and shame associated with this losing of one's hair. I have seen other articles in magazines or newspapers that mention Alopecia Areata - and it's always in a negative light. And the articles usually end with the person's hair…

<br />
I haven't bought a fashion magazine in over a decade - I just don't relate to what they are selling anymore.<br />
<br />
I think if I did see a woman with alopecia on the cover- I'd buy multiple copies - but until then ....
