How were the Freedom wigs? I tried to go and look at some yesterday but there were road closures and my sat nav couldn't cope. It kept trying to lead me back to the road that was closed. I followed some diversion signs but they were leading me further away. I had no idea where I was going and had forgotten a map so I gave up and went home. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. I can't afford it at the moment anyway!!!

I am going to look at Freedoms at the place in Oxfordshire on 23rd April as that's nearest me.

What were the Freedoms like? I got reply from my PCT. They won't give me a human hair wig prescription. They say that it is standard Trust policy to issue acrylic wigs.

Hi Gill

I've written to my PCT too to try and get them to give me a human hair wig. I'll let you know what happens. I've also made an appointment to go and have a look at some Freedom wigs. My hair was growing back quite well but patches started falling out again (although some have started growing again). There would be too many to cover up even if it carried on growing. Yesterday I shaved it all off again. I'm going to act as if it isn't coming back and try to get on with my life so I'm going to get a Freedom wig (not that I can afford it). Up until now I've been expecting it to come back but it doesn't seem to. If it does then that'll be a bonus.

How are you getting on with your Trendco?

Hi Gill

That's because I have set it to approve messages before they show up. I love my Trendco Gem too. Which one have you got? I've got the Diamond (the very long one) in the darkest colour they do which is almost black. I only got it on Monday from their shop in Brighton. It looks a bit of a mess as I haven't got used to styling it yet - but that just makes it look more real - so much better than synthetic wigs!!

I am also thinking of getting a Freedom wig and like you haven't had alopecia that long (just over a year). Most of my hair has grown back but then bits started falling out again. Some have grown back but others are still falling out. Like you I am worried about shelling out all that money on a Freedom wig only for my hair to grow back. I wish it would just do one thing or the other. I'd almost feel better if it all fell out and stayed out - at least then I could make decisions. I'll see how long this Trendco lasts then if my hair still hasn't grown back properly I'll look into getting a Freedom wig.

Hi again, if you could let me have the details of that scheme that'd be great thank you. My PCT allow me 2 human hair wigs every 3 years but I have to pay £292 towards it. This is the first time in 20+ years they've actually given me anything though so better than nothing I suppose! Im still tempted to try out the other supplier as it'll cost me a similar amount to get my next nhs one and if i dont try it I'll always be wondering what their like. Hope your getting on ok with your Gem x

Hi Gill, thanks for the lovely comments. I do love my gem wigs, I always get great comments from people about my hair and they do look natural. The best tip I can give you is keep it conditioned but less is more! I used to always think the more conditioner the better but you just end up with product build up, about a 50p sized blob evenly spread through the hairs plenty then every few weeks I use an intensive treatment. (something like the umberto gianini spa vials are great, v expensive though at £9.99 for 4 but occasionally boots have them on offer of 2 packs for £6) Ive been thinking about a freedom wig next but they just seem so expensive. Im not sure if you go on alopecia online but a couple of ladies there have just gotten wigs from Peru (I think) and they look fantastic! Im very tempted to try one of these next as they cost less than the Gem wigs but have a far superior cap from what I can tell. Sorry for rambling on, feel free to ask me anything if you want more info. Becky x

Hi Gill thanks for the lovely comment. We have had a REALLY hot and humid summer in NZ this year and Nicole has worn it all the time I said to her last night why don't u take your hair off and she said no it's warm lol.........I noticed that she was sweating alot on her brow yesterday but it obviously doesn't bother her as I have never had any complaints. We have had her hair undercut so she can wear it in a ponytail etc. The only disappointment we have is that she won't swim in it at school as when you are close up you can see the fit cap which is a shame because that was part of the reason we got it for her, I'm not sure if we need to get more hair cut into the fringe or what have to work on that one.

When Nicole was waiting for her freedom to arrive she continued to wear her first wig which was convenient. Honestly from what I have observed of Nicole you won't regret getting one they are fabulous.......she is off to Auckland in the school hols to get her hair coloured. Just get as much information about them as you can but at the end of the day you won't be disappointed.

Hi. well it does take a few months for the wigs to be made, so I would take that into consideration, you could always meet and get your skull cap ready with them (thats the measuring of your head for the wig). But yes, whenever you are ready. thanks. x

Hi Gill
Welcome to Alopecia World and thanks for your message
Freedom have made my last 3 wigs (over the last 14-15 years) with the newest one made last year and I think they are great. As Fitzy has said they are very secure, comfortable and the hair is gorgeous.
Some people find heat a problem, but I don't have any heat issues and we live in a hot area of New Zealand (30+ degC in Summer).
Feel free to ask if there is anything else you would like to know about them.
Take care and keep smiling
Cheryl

Hi, yes you are commenting right. This sight is great for newbies as it helps having lots of other people that you can relate to. In my opinion Freedom Wigs are the best available that will let you lead a life as if you really did have hair! You can swim, play tennis, walk in the wind, wear a ponytail and no one would know you had a wig on. The hair quality is fantastic and they really have changed my life. I would never wear anything other than a freedom wig. Because they are made custom for you they are very comfortable, you feel so secure as well as you know it cant be blown off or pulled off by someone else. Something i used to worry about with my old non freedom wigs. All the photos on my page are of me in my freedom wigs, check them out. Anyway, hope all is well with you!
