Hey - Yeah, everyone says that about my little girl. Our baby pics are the same too. Thanks. I just found 2 new spots. I'm not sure what to do. I wish it would just stop falling out and I pray that it does. It's in Gods hands now, I have faught it too long with the worry and stress. I trust that he will reoslve it soon for me. I get so down sometimes, but when ya pull back and take a look at it, there really is nothing I can do. I can treat the symptoms, however, if my hair is terminal, well then, it's terminal and not a whole lot I can do other than place my focus on wigs and a new lifestyle. I guess we need to be thankful for our hair falling out and the fact we don't have some horrible condition that prevents us from playing with our kids and being physical, ya know? I am here for you when you need me. 828-442-1774, and you can send me a note anytime also. I'm in NC. Take care~

Hey! Well i just get in over the counter from Boots (pharmacist/chemist) so i would try that, it says its for men on the bottle and they usually ask me who its for and i just say it's for my dad or something just to avoid complications.
Believe me i understand exactly how you feel! When my hair first started falling out i lived in a small town in Argentina where everybody knew me and they all found out eventually because i wore a hat ALL THE TIME for one year.. it was awful!
I was the same with my self esteem, i literally have none left because of this but i'm trying my best to build it back up.
Always here if you wanna talk :)
Stay strong xxx

Hey Misty, Yeah, I still have trouble although mine is going really slow. It started back in Aug of 08. I still have enough hair to cover the spots. I get cortisone injections from the Derma and it make the hair grow back, but then I just get new spots. I had very long thick, thick hair so maybe that is why it seems to be falling out slow. Anyway, I don't wash it or comb it much. Maybe once or twice a week. I just pull it all back. I use Toppix powder to help hide the spots. It works GREAT. You can find that at Sally's Beauty Supply. I'm just thankful I still have hair, and I hope and pray that it will stop falling out. I guess I will keep on trucking like this until there is not enough hair to use the powder and hide the spots. Then I guess it's wig time. Hate that though. I also use tar shampoo, it seems to help a bit. I hope you are well. Where do you live?

Hey Misty! Thanks for your comment. How are you? Yes it is really hard to deal with, especially not knowing what's going to happen. I've been wearing a wig now since october and it was helped in ways but just made me feel worse in others. Now its coming on to summer and we're getting some pretty warm days (very unusual in england but even so haha) and wearing a wig is really annoying me! In your about me section you ask if anyone has had any positive results and i guess i can say i have, last summer my hair was at its worse having lost about 85% of it but i've been using minoxidil 5% since then, just spraying in on the bald area every night and i think its safe to say ALL my hair has grown back! of course some bits are shorter than others ans stuff but i'm just so happy! i didn't think anything would work and all the doctors said they couldn't do anything about it. I'm still wearing a wig but not for long :) Hope things are great for you,
take care

Hey Misty! Thanks for the message. I'm doing great....just trying to avoid the 105 degree temperatures outside right now. How are you? I read your "about me" and I also get the cortisone injections. I find the injections to be the most affective on the eyebrows rather than the scalp. Have you used 5% minoxidil foam or fluocinodide topical solution? None guarantee re-growth, but it's possible that you may respond well to the treatments. Talk to your Dermatologist and see if he or she has heard of these or any other treatments. Nice to meet you! ttyl

They are completely grown in, and I stopped going to the dermatologist months ago. EVeryone has the general concensus that these spots were stress related, and since they have grown back, I don't need any more treatment. I'm sure your will grow in too...good luck!!!

i just read some of your ?'s and i am not a doc but this is what i have been told...clorine (nothting hurts alopecia not hair collor , gel, lotion...nothing if its going to fall out it is going to fall out their is nothing to prevent it and nothing that worsens it)

as for you daughter having it i was told there is less than a 10% chance your child can inherit this didorder (that was one of my 1st question i asked my dermo. and thats what she told me) i am truly sorry if your daughter does have this i know how rough it can be personally from an adults stand point. just be strong and hopfully she doesnt have this crazy disorder. well hope i hellped take care

well the shots seemed to help over night..not joking.... i was amazed. as for anything else i was told in highschool that if i used horse shamppo it would stimulate the hair folical so it wouldnt fall out as fast (the hair). i was aloso told that if you only condition the bottom part of your hair (the ends) not the top of your haor where the roots are (b/c if you condition the top it just loosens the hair and it falls of faster). so i have done it all the horse shampoo works a lil not much but it did help me you smell like you just came from the stables after you use it but hey whatever works right...lol. as for the conditoning part i have noticed it doesnt fal lout as fast...so those are my lil tricks that have helped me oh and you can also buy that hair fill it comes in a bottle it (kinda like hairspray ) only it fills in your bald spot if the spot isnt that big it helps (you still have to style around the spot but its not as noticeabble...oh and did i mention my hair in my spot is coming back white yeao i got the whole xman thing goong on right now...lol...well i hope i helped a little :) as for getting to where you are no i have never been out your way i dont travel much i am kinda a home bodie. what about you ever in houston? i see you have kiddos how many and what are their names. i have 2 kiddos christopher who is almost 4 and brooke who is one they are what keep me going most of the time but i have good days and bad days just like anyone else...welltake care and hope we can keep in touch :)

yes it does suck!! i had it in high school 10 yrs ago and i used a steroid cream and all of my hair grew back in 3 months..i was lucky and honestley never thought about it again. i went on to get married and have 2 kiddos 1 boy on girl and never had any signs of it returning. then one day i went to color my hair and bam a huge spot as i all them...lol. i was devestaed of course and i am not going to lie i went in to complete melt down mode...lol. its weird i can laugh and joke about it now but when it happend i didnt see the light at the end of the tunnel ...lol. well i went ahead and tried the cream this time around i had results but not enough to say it was making a difference. so six weeks after the cram didnt work i went back for streroid shots i have has a total of 7 injections over 3 months and well my spot is completely filled in yeah!!!! but i wake up everyday checking my pillow for hair for a long time i didnt even want to wash, brush or style my hair i was sooo scared of going completley bald you know. but the truth is if its going to happen there isnt much i can do about it. not to mention i am a control freak so not having any control over this disoreder is soooo fustrating. but i have a good support system and a great life so i cant complain. my son told me one day mommy dont worry when you get bigger an grow up youll have more hair....lol. i knew then that i couldnt let this get me down i just had to move on and be grateful for all i have you know. so any way i started buying these clip in pony tails and i just love them the rock!!! you just pull up the hair you have and bam clip the hair in and not only does it save time )which as a mommy you know we dont have much of)...lol....but the hubbs thinks its sexy and well it even gives me as i call it my alter echo...lol. my mom says i am crazy but like i told her i am going to give barbie a run for her money shes as fake as they come and well if she can do it i can to,....lol. well keep your head up and know that it will get better! best wishes on getting tru this and if you evere need and ear i am aorund...i know i have talked your ear off so i will let ya go..take care :)

yes..I'm here in the USA and think your little cuties are your greatest acheivement. My children have given me the strength and courage to stand strong on my journey throughout the years of adversity.
Now..for the chlorine issue and question..listen to Misty!
"hi Misty" .........................she's right.
it's immune!
Unless you have allergies to Chlorine..but that's still not going to make your hair fall out.
I am allergic to chlorine and believe me..I had loads of "HAiR" long long long.
Would swim every day...and sometimes get a little irritated on my skin and of course my eyes.
My hair never fell out from the chlorine.
It did years later.
Go with your kids and enjoy living..cause do or don't..nothings going to stop it from falling out!
No amount of worrying is going to change a thing.
We are here for you and all know the adversity and pain Alopecia brings down on us.
Yet when you turn off this comp and think we are gone..remember, we are right by your side...whispering.. stand tall..be strong..don't let others perceptions, judgements or critisizms pull you down.
"Smile "and know that your selfesteem and self worth is what makes you a true fighter.Know that we are beside you...cheering you on!
Take care..much luv

Hi Misty
I understand your frustration. Remember one thing, stress will make your hair fall out faster. You need to try to keep your mind clear and that means your subconscious mind too. Although Chlorine dries out the hair, I have never heard of it making Alopecia worse. Make sure that you keep a good conditioner in it. The cortisone shots worked slow and minimal for me. It is definitely a one day at a time thing. You will have good days and bad. Remember that it is ok to cry. Don't keep your emotions bottled up. I too am always looking for remedies. If I find something hopeful, I will let you know. Hang in there.

Hello and welcome, Misty!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. After I became the spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, a lot of women were needing my help and support, so I wrote a book called, "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" (It just won two national awards!) You can find out more on my page -- and it's available on Amazon.com, and on this site under "Bookshelf." Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

exactly! :) i had alopecia areata since i was 9, spots on the back of my head... i would get cortizone shots and that just sucks.... then a year ago, it turned into alopecia universalis, and i love all the hair on my head and body.... crazy! but i had to get used to it, just like anything else in your life, u grow accustomed.... plus, ill be damned if someone thinks they are better than me because they have hair and i dont.... i enjoy every second of this crazy ride called life <3
