Love wearing wigs

Posted on November 20, 2009 at 2:05pm 3 Comments

In scanning this site, it looks like most people hate wearing wigs. I actually think its a fun and glamorous thing to do. I feel like a princess or movie star when I'm wearing glamorous wigs. If anybody would like advice on how to make a wig look better, or more comfortable, please write to me.

Hi Liz- Loved your comments about wearing the wigs which I also like to exchange periodically; I just added a new profile photo (as a blond). One of the reasons for my wearing a wig is not so much being afraid of what others think but feeling better myself. When we feel glamorous, the moon and stars seem to shine a little brighter:). Hugs, Susan

Hi Liz, I resisted wearing a wig and felt like such a fake when I took the plunge...but like you my attitude changed and I realised I could look better than I did with my own hair. Unless a person goes through life completely natural i.e. no make up, no shaving of arm pits, no deodorant , no hair treatments or hair cutting/styling etc etc we all fake our appearance to some extent. Now my wigs are just part of who I am.

When I first thought about wearing a wig as a solution to my hair loss, I wasn't that comfortable with it. Then, I realized that there are whole sub-cultures of women who wear wigs every day becasue they want to, not because hair loss is forcing them: Hollywood stars, married orthodox Jewish women, many African American women, etc. Suddenly, wigs became not only a way to stop my obsession and distress regarding hair loss, but fashion accessories as well. I'm not hiding anything; I tell everyone I have Alopecia. If my hair grew back tomorrow, I'd still wear wigs sometimes.

Hi Liz,
Do you have any tips for when the wigs get knots at the nape of your neck? How can I prevent this or what can I use to get rid of it, instead of cutting it off?
I currently use the proper wig shampoo and conditioner?
Thanks
Lisa
