Hi Shauna - Welcome to Alopecia World. I lost all my hair fairly late in life. It's taken me a year, but I'm doing much better now. Hang in there. You'll find lots of great support on AW! Mary
I've only been gluten free for 4 months. Basically we came to the conclusion that gluten was possibly part of the AA issue. And also the thyroid issue. My thyroid has been going crazy and been rather unstable. Autoimmune disorders occur in clusters so it only made sense. I also had blood work done. My iron wasn't even in the range (it was so low) and there was a very high antibody count. So, in sum, my gut was extended and unhappy from the gluten....which meant that nutrients from food were not being absorbed....and the distress from my gut (the antibodies) were attacking other parts of my body like the hair follicles. It's too soon to tell if not eating gluten is helping yet......I still lose a lot of hair every day and am still waiting for my current bald patches to grow in. No new patches yet. But lots of hair in the shower and in my brush and on my shoulders and the back of my shirt.....one even blew off onto the steering wheel today in the car.
Hope this helps! My naturopath has been so helpful. I gave up on seeing a regular doctor. And I also see a dermatologist.
