Hello Fellow Alopecians! There is so much info on ordering wigs, however not as much information about the condition of these wigs a few months or a year after they're ordered. I've had cheap indian remy wigs last me two to three years, and some more expensive European hair wigs last less than a year. I'm so curious to know how others' wigs are holding up at the one year mark ... would love to see photos and review of one year old wigs! And please share name of manufacturer, where you ordered, and approx. price point.

Hi Gail don't waste your money on those expensive wigs, most of them are process wigs, what I have learned through my wig buying journey is that, it's not the wig that comes with the big price tag will last you the longest, you have to do your research before you spend that amount of money on any wigs, i find out even thought they say the it's 100% human virgin hair, that's doesn't tell you what kind of hair grade quality you are getting, hair comes in different grades (7A, 5A and 4A) which makes a big different when it comes to the how long the hair will last; for instance a 7A will last over a year and tangle less, a 5A will last you around 6 months little bit of tangling are more, 4A will last 3 months will tangle the most...also make sure that the hair is 100% human remy virgin hair. ...i bought my wig from this seller www.berrylacewigs.com, the reason why only recommend them for online shopping. because i find out a lot of these online wigs store are not honest. they sell fake hair as human hair, so you have to be careful. that's all for now :)
Thank you, I just learned something new from you! 14 years and I am always learning!
Hi Sunkiss
It really does depend on the company as to how they sort and manage the raw ponytails that make up 100% unprocessed virgin human hair. Grading is not something that makes a lot of sense to me. People choose hair that is the curl preference, the colour, the length, and the texture that they need. Children need children's hair, people of colour need hair that suits their needs, people of asian descent need hair for their needs. If it is 100% unprocessed virgin human hair the choices are endless the limitations real.

Hi Ladies, thank you for your responses and the time taken to submit your experiences and opinions in writing. There are clearly many choices out there in the wig industry, and I imagine the technology behind it is always evolving. My personal experience is only with Indian remy hair on a stretch cap and a more recent one is a Gemtress European hair ... though even these have been slightly different as I've ordered them year to year, likely reflecting the inherent evolution within the industry.
Hair is such a personal thing. We've all had to deal with the emotional aspects of letting go of our hair. I am often amazed at how fellow alopecian women I see are strong, vibrant, well dressed and project a huge sense of confidence. My personal conclusion is that we've become that way as a result of the inner wrestles with the emotional aspects of our hair loss ... we enter a cocoon of sorts for some time while we grapple with the loss initially, but then come out stronger and better and more put together than before. So in many ways it is a wonderful thing. What I see in these discussions is not only our diversity of opinions but also our strength as individuals, not afraid to stand up for what we believe. :)
The intent of my initial question was to ask people to post photos of their used wigs, as that is the only way we can see how these pieces the industry sells us wear over time. Yes most look beautiful when they first come out of the box. But what do they look like 6 to 12 months out of the box? I'm happy to share photos of mine ... and would love it if you could share photos of yours.
Thanks everyone!
Hi Andrea
Let me be the first to apologise for this thread being hijacked. I originally put my responses and as much information as I could around your questions. This isn't about who is getting what, but more about what people need. Information and care.
So, you take care and good luck with any decision you make around your hair of choice.

I've uploaded pictures of my oldest wigs. Both from Cooperwigs and both made using European hair. The first and second pictures are of an 18 month old wig with a thin skin perimeter. The third picture is of a wig now coming up to 3 years old which doesn't get worn quite so often as its a standard Swiss lace wig and I have developed an allergy to the tapes and glue if worn for more than a few hours. Both wigs have been recoloured by me as they were bleached by the sun. Neither of the wigs tangle excessively providing I deep condition them after every other shampooing.
Andrea, the wig is custom made to the measurements of my head and the thin skin perimeter quickly forms a tight seal around the hairline so the wig won’t move at all once the thin skin has reached body temperature. The only place that tape could be needed, would be in front of the ears, but then only if you intend to wear the hair pulled back tightly off of the face. The hair can also be worn in a high pony tail. I have never paid more than $430 for a wig (including delivery) which is why I have trouble reconciling this with the cost of the Freedom and other “premium” wigs. Then I subtly change the colour and style of my wigs from time to time so I really don’t need a wig that will last for 7 or 8 years. My current wigs have a darker root, so the hair by default must be processed. My annual spend on wigs is less than I would pay for regular colouring and styling at the hairdressers
What kind of products are you using on your Gemtress?
I have tangling issues with my Milano wigs and have found the best way to treat them is to use a sulfate free shampoo, then Bambu Silicon Mix treatment to condition (and leave on for at least 30 minutes before rinsing well). I then gently squeeze out excess water with a clean towel, and apply a few drops of argan oil (this is the one I use: http://www.sallybeauty.com/argan-oil/ONEONL16,default,pd.html) to the damp hair, starting at tips and working my way up. I then air dry. I wash, condition, apply the oil and let it dry on one of these wig heads: http://www.amazon.com/MILANO-Collection-Wigs-Professional-Head/dp/B...
Despite what these companies say about washing as infrequently as possible, when my hair starts tangling easily, I know it's time to wash, deep condition and apply oil as above. Sometimes that's only 2 weeks between washes.
That just about sums up my experience. I have never used Silicone Mix because I read that its quite heavy on straight European hair, but i have found that any good quality conditioner works and hair mask quite well. I do put the wig into a sealed plastic bag and microvave it from time to time though. This makes a very big difference to final condition of the hair.
Hi alittlelupie if you're are looking to buy wig that is 100% virgin remy human hair you can check this seller out at www.berrylacewigs.com, i bought 2 wigs from them and I’m very pleased with them... I used proclaim organ oil to moisturize the hair and for washing i would detangle my wig before i co-wash it, also i only use sulfate free shampoo on my wigs. That’s my tip for now
