Hello everyone!
I have had alopecia universalis for 9 years now (since I was 14, I am 25 now). I have tried everything under the sun, from ointments, injections to natural remedies, nothing worked and I have been wearing wigs for years. But 6 months ago I visited a doctor who prescribed a medication called "Baritava". It has been 6 months and I can say it has worked so much better than I could have imagined.
-Full head of hair (growth started within 2 months and I have 4 months of length in hair growth now)
-Eyebrows and eyelashes (eyelashes are almost fully back and I have full eyebrows now)
-Body hair slowly returning
The best part is, it is 1 pill a day, which can be taken on a time you decide (but you must stick to the time you chose everyday), you can take it on a full or empty stomach and you do not have to take it forever (Dr. said for a year then we lower the dose then I can get off the medication).
Like any medication in the world, it has possible side effects so every few months you will get tests done, I have not experienced any side effects and my tests turned out good everytime.
I think it is worth talking to with your doctor's and see what they have to say about it.
Let me know what you think!

Hi, what is baritava and where can you get it in the United States? Can you please tell me more?
Hi Sals!
I am not sure about the US because I'm based in Jordan. It isn't even available in Jordan so I had to get it from Egypt.
I'ts best to consult a doctor for a prescription and so they can keep track of your progress and prescribe tests to keep track of potential side effects. I would recommend to visit a doctor and ask about the specifics but I believe it might be available in the US. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Hi Sxra, thank for sharing!
Can i ask what dose mg your pills are (looks like they usual come in 2 or 4mg) that you are taking - im on tofacitinib at the moment, but i've read and seen results that baricitinib is far more targeted and give less side effects so i'm thinking about making the switch.
Thanks in advance!
P.S very pleased for you :) i've had a very similar journey with UA for a decade and now at about 80% coverage (cant seem to get more on tofa) :) x
Hi Jude! I take 4mg and I haven't had any side effects so I would definitely recommend that you talk to your doctor about it, my dermatologist has had great results with so many other patients as well
Hope you see great results!
Hi Sxra,
I've so happy for you :)
I've been thinking lately about taking Xeljanz but your post made reconsider my options. I've had alopecia areata since I was a kid & I've tried everything as well. Anyhow, I do have few questions:
- Did you have to follow a certain diet or lifestyle with this medication?
- May I know the name of the clinic that prescribed the medication for you?
Thank you very much in advance :)
Hey AloneArchitect
Thank you!
-you dont have to follow a lifestyle or diet which is great
-The clinic is called "Dermalife" it is located in Amman, Jordan which is owned by Dr. Nidal Obaidat. But I'm sure you can get a prescription from your doctor wherever you are. but you need to keep in mind that the medication is not available everywhere (I get it from Egypt)
