Accutane and hair loss
Hello, I am new to this site and im soo glad I found it! Anyways, I was on Accutane in June 2008 for 5 months. Immediatly after I started taking it, my hair started to fall out. My hair had previously gone through periods of shedding but it always stopped and never thinned out. However, It was has been a year now since I've been off of accutane and my hair continues to fall out. Its now to the point where I cannot wear it up without seeing my scalp, it barely holds in a ponytail and feels feather like. I would say I lost over 1/2 of my hair density. I have been to two different derms and have had two blood panels done which all came back normal. They tell me that its impossible for Accutane to cause hair loss which I believe is a load of crap. They also tell me that is just telegon efflvium..they are of no help at all. So I was wondering if anyone else has had Accutane trigger telegon effluvium or trigger androgenetic alopecia? I still cant find a derm who will who even look at my scalp or try to give me a diagnoses.. any help would be awsome!

This problem is so complex and difficult to understand. I too have had hair loss in the past. It is due to hormone imbalance and childbirth. There seems to be some kind of senisitivity to internal changes that causes certain of us women's hair to react. My hair loss during cb was more than average and continued for six months until it finally turned around. Now that I am not ovualting regularly it has been falling out again. Your trigeer may have been the medication. I ordered Hair Essentials nutrient http://www.naturalwellbeing.com. Women with hair loss are raving about this vitamin. It has three chinese herbs and other vitamins for hair regrowth. If it works for me, I will recomend it to you. I use Spectral DNC by DS laboratories and Revita shampoo. it appears to be the best regimen in the chronic phase. Spectral has Minoxidil. but it's an omens job staying with treatment. also Hair Fattener by Toppiks is great for making thin hair look thick. It needs to be watered down though about 50%. Comb through hair after washing and style. It is very good. For frizzy hair I use got2b Crazy Sleek xl conditioning Flat Iron Blow dry lotion. The straight yet full look is good for thinning hair. Be careful to let the hair dry a few minutes befor combing. Combing "too wet "hair causes more fallout. It takes me about an hour and a half to do my hair. Ridiculous. I used to wash blow dry and go.
I also get burning scalp syndrome (torturous) and brittleness that comes and goes. My hair reacts to every change. Since I am in peri, I am on Vivelle dot natural estrogen patch and natural progesterone.
This may not be an option for you if you are young so I recommend the vitamin and the spectral and Revita shampoo.
Either way we have been dealt a bad hand, but I trust the hand od God to turn this around. It is a psychological nightmare... no question. This site is a place for us to support one another. Feel free to write back when you have time. Hope this helps! All the best!
