I'm taking my first flight since wearing hair. I'm so paranoid because the sides of my wig have bendable tabs which are probably metal. What should I expect going through security?

I just flew last weekend, and I had zero issues. No one asked or said a word. I didn't have to get any extra security. I went through both kinds of detectors too. I have flown several times, and the only thing they have ever done is pat my head. If you have to have any extra screening, it will be a woman. If you want, you can whisper to her that you are wearing a wig. However, all she might do is pat your head. Usually, if they have to do that, it is for a different reason other than a wig. They are used to it so don't worry!!
I was anxious about the same thing, but went through airport security with no problems. Hope you have the same experience.
My husband is a police officer and he said that the tabs are normally aluminum and don't set off metal detectors. It takes a hard metal like coins.
When I go flying I prefer to wear a scarf, but either way they just pat your head and move on. They understand. Don't worry. You can always just tell the person you are wearing a wig and they will understand.
Hi! I fly often, and have never had a problem at all. While I can't be 100% positive that a wig couldn't set off a metal detector, I can say that not once has mine. I also have metal in my right leg (broke it in three places years ago) and always worried that would be a problem. Also, underwire bras they say....but honestly, none of these things have ever been an issue. I'm sure you will have a great flight with no problem at all. Don't worry! :)
I've always flown with a wig and the metal detector didn't go off but this thread reminds me of the time I forgot to pin my wig to the Styrofoam head in my wig box. When going through security they opened the box to see what was inside and when they gave it back to me the wig was pinned nicely onto the head!!!
Well, I don't know about flying with a wig, but here's a story of flying with a scarf:
When I went to Greece they made me take off my scarf to see what was underneath. Well... noting of course! Not even a hair! I was NOT amused!
Next time to Lisbon: they felt that my scarf was a sign of Muslim extremism (reformed white woman) everything was so thoroughly searched, I almost missed my flight!
This last time to Edinburgh I didn't even bother wearing a scarf. It works like a charm!
My drivers licence has a picture of me without anything on my head. My passport is due for a change, so perhaps a nice clean shiny shot makes history of all my (h)airport security problems??
