Hey! I'm 17 and was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in late January of this year. My older sister has Alopecia Universalis. This past summer I got my tonsils removed because I was always getting strep and then got mono. I've heard theories of this switch from my immune system focusing on keeping me healthy could be the cause of my Alopecia surfacing now? Has anybody else experienced something similar? Does this seem probable?

Yes.  I was seven years old.  After my tonsillectomy my hair fell out just before my eighth birthday.  47 years later I still have Universalis.
