Hi

I'm sorry this is happening to you. It's never easy to deal with alopecia especially at the beginning stages.

Nobody can tell you what is going to happen with your hair...that's the worst thing to come to terms with when dealing with alopecia. It is very unpredictable and everybody has a different loss pattern, growth pattern etc.

It is not uncommon to have thyroid conditions and alopecia. I know of quite a few people dealing with the same issues as you have.

Stress (my opinion) does not cause alopecia. Alopecia is an Auto Immune condition that seems to have a genetic component. Nobody knows what causes it or how to cure it at this time.

I looked at your piccies and I understand that you will be feeling overwhelmed. Take a breath you are going to find your way with this condition. I understand you just want this to stop and for life to go on as normal but sadly this is not going to happen right now...so you need to think about what your worries and concerns are right now and be proactive around finding some answers for yourself.

There is a wealth of knowledge here...look through the categories and read as much as you can.

If I can be of any help just let me know.

Take care and hang in there...you will be ok.

Thank u very much .. ya its been a struggle trying to understand what's happening .. have u heard of pro topic ointment I haven't tried it yet does it help at all ?

Yes, I have. It was offered to my daughter when she first started loosing hair. For her it didn't stop the progression of her alopecia.

It's a cream that suppresses the inflammatory response in the skin, it is usually used to help those with eczema (my daughter also has eczema). Sometimes the creams prescribed are broad in the ability to help. I'm not sure why your doctor prescribed this one. Most likely because alopecia is a inflammatory condition as well.

I know this is so very difficult. But if it works that's great. If not move on. It's ok to concentrate on this condition until you find some answers for yourself...but do your best not to let it take over your life. You are far more than alopecia.

Do also keep in mind that alopecia can resolve itself without medical intervention. Again nobody knows why hair comes and goes but it often does (especially with children). My daughter has grown her hair back 6 times in the last 11 years....She has lost it 7 times. There are people that grow there hair back and never have another bout of alopecia. There also people that go straight to AU and stay there for many years. I wish I could tell you what is going to happen but I can't.

When trying any medications keep the above in mind.

Good luck with everything.

Thank u very much ya im gonna do some more research about the cream it wasn't prescribed yet my doctor just mention it may help but ill research it first thanks for your help :)

Hi, PK! Rose Marie kinda summed everything up neatly! One more thing I would suggest is finding a support group in your area soon. I lived many years in a small town with no such group, but after moving I have found a group and went to my first meeting last week....it was AMAZING. Not only did it give me courage, but also peace. And that was much needed after all the questions - why me? why this? why now? If there are not any support groups in your area, find some that meet online.
Just hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Then the worst won't seem hard if it ever gets to that point (God forbid). I agree with Rose Marie, too - stress might affect an auto-immune disease (because stress does affect us physically), but it is not the cause. So don't stress about stress :-)
Keep researching, learning, and sharing. There is strength in surrounding yourself with those who genuinely understand what you might be going through.
Good luck :-)

Thank you ya i thought about that hopefully there r support groups in NY gonna google that thank u for your advise i def gotta work on my stress too : / i think i need a vacation lol that may help : )

I Think try DPCP or betnesol forte tablet,, this might help you..

thank you is that over the counter or do i need a rx for it ??

Hi

I don't live in the USA, but I'm fairly sure you would need to see a doctor and get a prescription. If you do a search her for DPCP...you will find a few threads pertaining to this treatment option.

Don't be afraid to try alternate treatments.  When my son developed this condition I took him to a Naturopath and he was put on a gluten and dairy free diet, as well as biotin, zinc and a probiotic.  We switched his diet to a whole foods diet and eliminated beef and pork.  He uses only a natural shampoo and deodorant - nothing with heavy scents or chemicals.  He also sees a chiropractor for regular back adjusments (I read somewhere this may help so why not?)....His condition has improved remarkably. It has been a difficult road with so much conflicting information from the medical vs non medical communities. Stay positive and try not to stress too much.

thank u for your reply i'm gonna try the gluten free diet .. what kind of shampoo does he use i've been using progaine for thinning hair but i'm not sure if its helping or not thou its hard to tell.. i see a little growth from injections its all white though ? i def could use a chiropractor thank you for your advise also any advise about a natural hair dye i wanted to try to dye the white hair but i'm very scared too cause of the chemicals : /

He has been using Avalon Organics Thickening Shampoo - Biotin B Complex Therapy with good results.  His hair growth initially was white and then slowly turned to his natural black color.  I would ask your hairdresser about dyeing the white hairs - hairdressers know alot about this condition and can be very helpful.
