My daughter had a little bald spot when she was about two or three years old. They never said she had alopecia areata but it had to be.The hair grew back. She is seventeen now and has two large patches of bald in her hair.It has been no hair growth in some of the spots for about thirteen months. Some of the hair has grown back in started from the bottom and working its way up towards the other spots.Im really worried will it ever grow back and how long does it take if it will grow back ? The derm has her on topical cortesione cream to see if that will help. She can cover the spots because her hair is long. What are the chances that my babys hair want grow back in.

Hi
There are no norms with this condition. That is probably going to be the worse thing to handle. Alopecia areata does what it wants when it wants and nobody can really tell you why. It is an auto immune disease that is precarious and precocious. At this time there is no cure. There are treatments that work short term...such as topical steroids, injected steroids and oral steroids, but unless your daughter goes into a natural remission these treatments will only last as long as she uses them. They can not be used indefinitely. Natural remission is very common and it is more common for hair to grow back than to continue to fall out.
I know this will be horrible for you to read, but understand you are not by yourself. I also have a daughter (she is now 23 years old), who has been dealing with alopecia since she was 12. If I can be of any support feel free to contact me.

Thanks i just want it to grow back on its on natuarally.
Hi,
I agree with Rose Marie. There is no way to tell with AA. My daughters came and went and came again. Drying her tears and working on her self esteem became a daily task.Doctors had no clue with all the meds they were prescribing and procedures. So I feel your pain. We are blessed that she has had a full head of hair for years now. Thanking God everyday. :-) If you want to talk feel free to inbox me. Happy to help :-)
