My GP diagnosed me with alopecia ophiasis at the end of January (just by doing a visual inspection) and so far all my hair loss is below my ears at the back in one huge area but it's been so itchy and also red and rashy for almost two months now that I'm wondering if it could be scarring alopecia instead? I'm seeing a dermatologist next week (finally!) but I'm going absolutely mad with the constant burning and itching. With ophiasis can you get rashy as well or does this sound like something else? At this stage I'm nearly ready to shave it all off just to make the discomfort stop...but I don't know that it would :(

I have ophiasis and no rash, but I would imagine one could get a rash with any kind of alopecia ?? And one can have a combination of types of alopecia.

Do you get a burning feeling with your ophiasis? Or a feeling like your hair is being pulled? I have those sensations pretty much nonstop on top of the itching. I'm at my wit's end - it's so distracting.

No, nothing like that at all.  Just the hair loss.....
