Spoiler alert: Most of you will probably dislike this post.

Am I the only one here who gets mad when people post here things like "alopecia is a terrible condition" or "a devastating disease", etc.

It is A condition (not terrible). It is just hair. Yeah, it kinda sucks, people are not familiar, we get cold easier, dust always gets in your eyes without eyelashes.  We are otherwise just fine.  It is only in us that we "see the way people stare". They really don't, it is mostly made up in our minds.  Yeah, you do get the few and far between people who make stupid comments (due to ignorance and general dumbassery).

It is a choice to see yourself as beautiful. We have the power to change the way we think and feel about ourselves. If you are not comfortable yet without wearing a wig, thats ok, but trust me 99.99% of people have no idea it's a wig, even when it is a cheap one.  It took me a few months to be perfectly comfortable going to work without one, and about a year to be out on the town.  I did it during these times, but it wasn't super comfortable.  It finally dawned on me, that it WAS all in my head, and letting go of any anxiety was way easier than trying to carry it around with me.

Last, at least for the women: We all have things about our appearance that we would like to change. Ours is slightly more obvious (to those who know) than others, but I don't know one person who doesn't have at least one thing that has always bugged them.  You have features others covet, and vice versa. That is life.

Rant over.

I hear you. It's all about a positive attitude and simply choosing to do what is comfortable. Some people can get to that place and others can't.
I've chosen to take this "head" on and do what is most comfortable for me. My hair was falling out a rapid rate towards the end and it was much more stressful for me to cover up the ever growing patches so I shaved it off and went to work bald. I haven't been to the grocery store bald yet, but I did sit in a food court. One thing at a time. But I agree with you, even when I had a full head of hair and it was messy I felt like people were looking at me, or when you have a big pimple on your forehead you just think everyone has to be staring. We're all so caught up worrying about what everyone else thinks. We need to take charge and be ourselves, walk proud whether that is with a wig, bald or otherwise.
Thanks for your post I enjoyed reading it.

I love this!  Well said.  And no you are not alone.  I can only visit this site once every couple of months.  Because I have found it is tiring for me to try to encourage, embrace, talk through, be positive, etc... in the midst of all the negative and attempts to "fix" this issue.  I have grown to accept it.  I have grown to embrace it.  It makes me who I am and has shaped me into the person I am today.  Thank you!

You're not alone; I feel pretty much the same.
