Hello my friends,
I am on my 3rd wig in about 2.5 yrs and feeling very frustrated. This wig thing is really hit and miss!
Below is my wig experience to date. With all these troubles, Im torn between what will work best for me going forward. Short, long? Blonde, dark? Synthetic, human hair? What for you has given you the most pleasure and reliability, for the longest time?
No. 1 was my first wig- shoulder length blonde synthetic from Jean Renau.
Problems: very shiny, stiff rough fibre, the lace front scratched the hell out of my scalp and caused irritation/eczema
No. 2 was my first human hair wig, from Fortune Wigs, USA, bought online (im in South Africa). Comfort range (fine human hair) Long (18inch) and blonde. Monofilament Cap is very comfortable.
Problems: nightmare to wash as it tangled like crazy and i was doing it right and using good products, but would take me over an hour to untangle it once it was wet! It was very dry,
Secondly, the blonde went very Yellow! In fact, when people spoke to me they couldnt take their eyes off my hair, the colour looked so bad. I eventually got too embarrassed to wear it.
No. 3, human hair, also from Fortune wigs, the one i currently wear. Only been wearing it for 4 months. Long (18inch), ombre- dark brown on top and dirty blonde below. Monofilament cap is very comfortable and soft
Problems: again the colour. The dark on top has lightened dramatically in such a short time. Its now looking reddish and just a horrid color. Dramatically different to when i bought it.
Secondly its really dry all over but especially on the ends. Due to this, it knots like crazy. I use argan oil but the effects dont last long.
Am i expecting too much perhaps? Are all these issues common?
Just wish my darn hair would must grown back already!
Appreciate your advise and guidance.

Hi Kim are there any support groups in Capetown?
hi,
sounds like your wigs are oxidizing way too fast. unless you are spending a lot of time in the sun. if you are, id recommend wearing a cap or something on your wig when going out.
regarding the washing, kudos to you for doing it yourself. if it is taking too much time, maybe find a wig salon near you?
hope you find what you need and it works out well for you!
Vanessa
I had a lot of issues with human hair wigs. The idea behind it is great because you can style it and it will react like real hair. However, the reality is that it is dead hair so there is only much you can do to something that is no longer healthy. I struggled a lot with this in the beginning and eventually stuck with synthetic wigs. I go to a place called Helena Collection in New York City. They are wonderful people and come up with any style and cut that I like. I would stay away from longer hair styles, as the synthetic hair will rub up against clothing and your shoulders and over time, will cause it to fray. But hang in there, you'll find one that works for you! it just takes time and patience
i'm sorry, I haven't logged in for a while. The HH wigs were short lived in my time. I couldn't keep control of them without it constantly looking a mess. I'm not against them at al, but I couldn't keep up with it. My wigs now give me less worries in a way, I know how they will come out. AND you know what, I get compliments on my hair. Kinda stupid, but it feels AMAZING. You know what I mean???
