Hi, so my 4 yr olds AA looks to me like its still going my derm said not to do anything for 6mths to see what happens but I see no new hair even starting to come back its been almost 3 mths. I was wondering is there any suggestions of anything anyone has used from home just to help the growth along I have read some online but would like to know from someone who tried.I see some oils are ok to put on the head I know its different for everyone but if its not going to hurt her its worth a try while were waiting. Thanks

Hi

I am going to pass on my personal opinion with regards to medications and treatments.

At this time there is no known cure for alopecia. Steroids (oral and external) do help, but can not be used endlessly as side effects can be horrendous. Lotions and potions have and are always touted as being something that helps. I have never known anything that helps consistently for all dealing with alopecia. Some people will swear by their regimen of use though and they may pop on and pass what they feel helps, on to you.

My daughter has had alopecia for 10 years in that time she has regrown her hair 6 times and lost it 7 times. We have never used medications, treatments, lotions or anything else. Her hair goes into spontaneous remission on a fairly regular basis. Nobody can tell me why it comes back or why it falls out. Spontaneous remission is not unusual for those dealing with alopecia (especially children), so sometimes the wait and see is waiting for your daughters hair and body to balance somewhat (sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn't).

I know this is incredibly frustrating for you and understand why you may like to try some treatments. My advise would be to make sure you are not spending too much money and that whatever you are using is not hurting your daughter in the long term.

Good luck with everything.
