Over the last month, it appears I'm experiencing yet another new "issue" with my latest hair-loss flare up. Perhaps it's allergies, but certain days, my eyes burn as if I've been pepper-sprayed or something. At first, I thought it was from lotion on my hands, smoke in an area, etc. But then it's been happening on random days in random places, inside and/or outside.

Yesterday I started cycling and I could barely see as my eyes teared up (I wear glasses with transitional lenses), I had to squint as if the sun was directly in my eyes and it burned for about 5 min.. After some "crying", the tears were gone but the slight burning remained until I went to bed.

I'm leaning towards allergies (I began taking an OTC a few days ago), but has anyone else had the same issue?

Perhaps you should check thyroidea. I have hypothyreosis myself, and I know of some other alopecians who have thyroideaproblems as well, and dry, burning Eyes are one of a lot of symptoms for hypo- and hyperthyreosis, so let your doctor check it. And out of personal experiences; the lack of Eye lashes affects the Eyes, especially now in springtime, with the wind and sand blowing up my Eyes, wearing glasses helps just a Little.

Hi there,  I have AU ...no eyebrows or eyelashes.  More often then not my eyes are itchy, burning and have dry eye. I also have had pink eye several times.   I saw my eye doctor recently who first confirmed I didn't have an infection. She recommended over the counter eye drops -Systane Balance.  put in both eyes several times a day.  I find it makes a big difference with the itchy and burning.

Much thanks for the replies!

I'm going to monitor how I feel on days where I forget to take my allergy med and I have bought some eye drops and used those quite a bit as well. On the "burning days", they help temporarily, but I see the Systane is a bit more potent and may work better.

About two years after I developed AT, I developed Bluferitus. Extremely dry, itchy, burning eyes. You should have a proper eye Dr check it. As it is a medical condition your medical ins should cover you seeing a good eye Dr. I have used good steroidal eye drops that can make them feel much better. Good luck...

I was dx'd with AA last summer and lost my bottom eye lashes as  well as hair on my head.  I have had an ongoing issue with cloudy eyes, running eyes, itchy/red eyes, ever since.  It would appear that some lower lashes are now growing back in, but sparsely.  I still have the issues with my eyes.
