How many of you have other autoimmune problems in family members that you do not suffer from?
My sons (AA) sister has SEVERE allergies, asthma and eczema. I don’t know about all of his family history because he is not bio. BUT my best friend (AA/ AT at times) has a family history of diabetes, eczema and asthma? But she has only alopecia. I have spoken to a dermatologist about this and it seems to be a trend so I wanted your ideas too. I can tell you this about 2 weeks before my sons first spot appeared he broke out in hives head to toe for a reason that was never known. After this doctor explained to me the findings of family members it made sense.
Here is link to a list of autoimmune diseases please feel free to add to the list and let me know if you see a pattern in your own family. Hopefully a cure will be found thru serendipity because we all know funding goes to these research projects more that it will ever go to Alopecia.
Alopecia Areata is on this list as being accepted as an auto immune disease to read more about the cancer center study for alopecia (serendipity) please click the website from reference number 2. I find it interesting my son is not eligible because again he is not biological to our family.
I hope you find some interest in this discussion and I hope that for those of you looking for better ways to explain and educate others on alopecia that you find what your looking for even a connection to why you might have this! Take Care
