Well, I am a 46 year old guy and was just diagnosed with AA. I am still pretty stunned. I have about 30% loss of my hair with more on the way out. I feel like I look like I have "the mange"! Wondering if there is any advise for adjusting to the "new way of life"

Thanks

How kind of you to say. Thank you.

I'm new here too. Starting to get familiar with the site. I'm 34 years old female AU since I was 19.

Hope you get success with your treatment!

I'm on Xeljanz and finally seeing growth after all these years!

Hi Tim! :-)

I'm new too but I've had AA since I was 9. Hmm some practical advice?

1) Look into corticosteroid injections, topical solutions, etc. since it's so early.
2) If ever you decide to shave it off, but dislike the patchy look, you can get micropigmentation. It fills in the scalp (or eyebrows) to make shaving look like a choice.
3) Remember your attractiveness isn't tied to your hair any more than it was for your courageous wife.

Good Luck!
Hi Tim,
I'm 41 and started with this last March. Began as a very small patch, and unfortunately has deteriorated - but I still have over 50% of my hair. I have thick long hair, and I still manage to disguise AA. I have steroid injections given regularly and lots of new hair growing.
So, it's a strange and difficult ride... With lots of downs... Try and keep positive.
For me the uncertainty is one of the most difficult aspects. As well as my self image.

Take it one day at a time. And don't get obsessed with reading up on it over the net...

Oh my.  Great advice.  I've been so obsessed with googling this that I think my boyfriend is genuinely concerned.......
