I am wondering if there is any connection or has there even been any study of women or men having cancer specifically Breast cancer who have Alopecia?
I am a 48yr old women who was diagosed with acute asthma when I was 2yrs old. I started to lose my hair in high school around the age 17 in patches. I went through cortisone injections and my hair returned until the next year in May and under went injections again. At the age of 21 I started a new birth control pill and by new I mean new to the market. With in 4 months I started to lose my hair, up one side of my head around the back then up the otherside. By age 22 I had to start wearing a wig. When I got pregnant with my son I lost my eye brows that was at the age of 26. Although I never lost my eyelashes with the next pregnancy I worried I would.
At the age of 45 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and not only had a lump but was privleged to have 2 types of breast cancer at once. The reason I am telling my story is that I have always found it odd that while Alopecia is an immune deficiency it seems like most of the issues I have had somehow relate to hormones, I might be incorrect but I just wonder if there has ever been any research, study or if anyone else has had simuliar experiences?

Hi Sandy,
I am so sorry to hear your story, and that it was 7 years ago since you posted this. You are not alone.
My name is Diana. I am a 38 year old, 2-time breast cancer survivor who has had alopecia universalis since I was 18. My first breast cancer was at 31, and my most recent (not a recurrence but a separate breast cancer) was at age 37.
While preparing for a visit with my oncologist to discuss treatment options, I created this "one-pager" to help facilitate the conversation (attached). His response was that my research presented "soft evidence" but I felt that was still better than the "I don't know why you got breast cancer twice" response.
Anyways, I hope your survivorship journey is progressing well. Perhaps if you are able to share this "one-pager" with your medical care team, you might make some headway.
Thanks and good luck,
Diana
