Your best option is to take it to a hairdresser that knows how to cut wigs and tell them that you want it thinned out. I recommend wearing it to the salon so that they can thin it out the right amount for your preference.
I wouldn't recommend it unless you cut hair professionally because you wouldn't want to take more off of one part than you do on another. Either way just remember that it is best to take your time because you can always cut more off but you can't put more back on (tell your hairdresser this if you decide to go to one). Plus it would be easier to have someone else do it, especially when it comes to the back. But it is totally up to you! Just do whatever you feel confident with.
