Hi there. I have been recently diagnosed with alopecia areata. While I am not completely bald yet, I have been losing a lot of hair and it's been getting really hard to cover my bald spots. I am torn between shaving my remaining hair off and holding on to the hair that I still got. I am determined though to get a wig to cover my bald spots which are on the top part of my head. I live in Auckland, New Zealand and I have only been here for a little over a year. If any of you knows a good local wig boutique, I'd appreciate your recommendation. Thanks!

Hi there how are you? I also live in Auckland and have AU. I got my first wigs from Hair Creations in Newton (www.wigs.co.nz). I had these for about 5 years, before I got a vaccuum cap real hair wig from Freedom wigs. there is a subsidy available as well. Hope this helps - let me know if you need more info. Keep smiling.
Hi Kath and Dave!

Kath, how did you find your wig from Hair Creations? Was it comfortable, secure, natural-looking? How difficult was it to maintain your wig? Im an active person and before I was hit with alopecia, I never really cared about my looks. I’d take a bath, slap on my moisturizer and off I go and I don’t really want to change that aspect of my lifestyle. My ideal wig would be easy to maintain, natural-looking, and very very secure as I am an active person. Am I, perhaps, asking for too much? As of yet, I don’t really know the course this dratted alopecia would take. I am losing a lot of hair at the moment; I havent lost all of it yet so I thought I’d put off getting a vacuum wig until I get a better idea how my alopecia would progress.

And Dave, thanks for the heads up. I heard you’re managing seven salons. Will you make me a cranial prosthesis, pretty please. LOL. Kidding Dave. That was a real good advice. Insurance people are really hard to deal with; they’ll make you want to pull out your hair, if you still have any left. LOL.
