Hi,

I'm 19 years olf and I've just been diagnosed with Alopecia. I have been dying my hair for 10+ years. I LOVE changing my hair colour and was planning on going pink to match my bridesmaid dress for my little sister's wedding this August.

Can I still dye my hair? Will dying my hair make my hair fall out even more? Is dying my hair for my adult life a cause of alopecia?

Changing my hair colour has always been a source of confidence for me. I love changing it up and it always makes me happy to try a new shade of red, blonde or purple. I was sooooo looking forward to pink hair for the wedding!

Help me out! Thanks so much!

I would go ahead and dye your hair a fabulous shade of pink for your sisters wedding. Long term I would speak to your dermatologist about the health of your scalp. If you have a cicatrical (scarring) alopecia like I have, frontal fibrosing alipecia, some derms recommend we don't use any chemicals: hair dye, perms, relaxers etc... just in case it affects our scalps but sine derms say it makes no difference. If you have a non scarring alopecia then I don't think it affects you because they are autoimmune conditions.. So basically just take medical advice but do what you want for the wedding, one application of dye won't make any difference.

Enjoy the wedding, you will look fantastic xxx
