I just got off the phone with CareSource and they said they will approve my daughter's Prior Authorization for a hairpiece from a Durable Medical Equipment Provider.. While, I greatly appreciate the fact that they are covering one - I feel like can I really get a realistic or even semi-looking realistic hairpiece from a DME?!?

She is almost 11 & lost hair fairly quickly, but all of her friends and the school/community around here know the situation. But, we are moving next month. I am so worried for her to move to a new neighborhood and school where kids can be soooo cruel (and it's an apartment complex, that's full of kids)!

Oh please help! Does anyone have any experience with this situation? We live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Thanks B^D

  • ****Just wanted to post an update to this, I haven't found the supplier we are going with yet - but one CRUCIAL bit on info, is that CareSource WILL NOT reimburse, I have to be "in-network". So, do not purchase one upfront expecting to get your money returned (I've had a lot of suppliers tell me that if I have a prescription & they'll cover a hairpiece - that would be ok, it's not, I just don't want you to be out that money & unable to return the hairpiece.****

Once I find one that we decide to go with, I will let everyone know - in case you're looking as well. But, if anyone has suggestion plz

Allusions Salon in Montgomery (Cincinnati, Ohio)

KidsWigs will provide for FREE a customized hair replacement system for children - they offer SEVERAL options!! My daughter has an appointment next week!! I'm soooo excited!!

 http://allusionshair.com/

good luck to everyone!! I will keep you update on our progress and let you know how it turns out. I asked about vacuum wigs (because its swimming season) and she suggested CyberHair by Private Issue due to how hot the vacuum wigs were and how active kids are.. She also said that she would still be able to swim & be just as active - but would need to see her at the consultation to be sure what was the right system for her.. So, I cant wait!

They also have several options available for women and men. They work with real human hair and synthetic. It's an awesome place, and the website says they will file your insurance claims for you. I think that might help you get them covered.. Idk for sure, but maybe? Hope this helps!

Much love to all of you out there! X♥X♥X♥X

But keep in mind that, as a DME provider, we do make custom medical wigs so we can design it to look however your daughter wants.

We have made lot's of prosthetic wigs for children and teens. We make sure the fit and density is natural for their age.

Thanks for your reply! I will check out your wigs most definately! Hope to speak to you soon!

I got a Water Wig by Amy Gibson
Her company is createdhair.com. She has AU and is really compassionate
My wig looks really great I love it I've had it for almost a year
it looks just like my hair and you literally don't feel like you have anything on your head because it's made of all lace
I use tape with it for extra security but if I'm running around just doing errands I usually don't use anything with it but it worked out great
Good luck I hope it works out for you
