Hi guys

Have you ever heard about Coimbra protocol(https://www.coimbraprotocol.com/). I found the information about it few months ago. It's about treatment autoimmune conditions(mostly much more serious than alopecia, such as multiple sclerosis) with high doses of vitamin D. I've made the blood test and found that my vitamin D level is critically low. I started take physiological dose of vitamin D(10000) and I've got the regrowth(however it could be just spontaneous, cause I have few remissions before without any treatment).

Anyway, the main question is - The Coimbra protocol, have you ever heard about it or even better - have you ever tried it?

P.S. Sorry for mistakes, I'm not the native speaker

It is so interesting you posted this, because I just came across his research. I watched his whole lecture in Italian with English subtitles! I also have low vitamin D, and have had many regrowths over the past seven years. This time, about 90% of my hair has been gone for over a year, with no sign of regrowth even with steroid injections. I plan to start the coimbra protocol, and carefully monitor my vitamin D levels for toxicity with Vit D testing. Also, he requires supplementation of magnesium, and a dairy free diet. I will post back here if there are any results or lack thereof

Hi,

I also find this very interesting. A couple months ago, I found information suggesting that over 90% of alopecia victims have very low serum vitamin D levels. It's been found in several academic studies in a few counties. In one study, a topical application of D was enough to resolve a relatively minor case of areata, but that's the only apparent one that actually tried to treat the disease this way. The rest just concluded that it's a consistent issue and then did nothing further.

So, I started taking 8000 iu daily about five weeks ago. That's a lot of vitamin D, but far less than the Coimbra protocol suggests. I haven't seen any results yet, but I didn't really expect any this quickly. I am also applying a vitamin D analog salve to the affected areas twice daily.

Many of the academic studies conclude by strongly recommending further research into vitamin D deficiency as it relates to alopecia, and if supplementation or topical application can be effective. Sadly, I doubt that will ever happen on a large scale (it certainly isn't happening now), because there's no potential revenue stream for the drug companies. Vitamin D levels are too easy and cheap to raise.

So, I think it's going to be up to us to experiment. I don't think I'm willing to take 80,000 iu daily (1000 iu x my 80 kg weight, as per the Coimbra protocol) without doing further research, but this is definitely an interesting option in light of what I found regarding vitamin D and alopecia.

Thanks for posting this! This forum is unfortunately focused on Xeljanz, but I hope that there are still a few of us who would rather look for a solution to the root problem.

I've been taking 10,000 IU a day for over a year...my vitamin D levels were very low in the mid 20's Ng/ml...they are now at 44...My goal is to get it to 80 . I have alopecia universalis with severe nail issues as well. After a year...I've grown a lot of pubic hair and some eye lashes on both eyes (first time in 25 years)...the hair on my head is very light and sparse...the nails on my right hand improved greatly. I also found out from 23andme that I have a polymorphism in my vitamin D receptor gene...I don't covert sunlight into vitamin D very efficiently and I live in Canada where we only get vitamin d from the sun 7 months of the year
