college fundraising??
Hi everyone! So, I'm about to begin my third year of college and lately I've been thinking that I want to come out and be open about my Alopecia. A year ago, when I was first diagnosed, I would never have even considered this, but after attending this years conference in Houston, I feel like I different person! So anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for an on campus fundraiser. I want to promote awareness about my condition and raise money for naaf in the process. I kinda want the fundraiser to relate to alopecia in some way...maybe like $5 dollar haircuts! :)

I would be delighted to help you in your new transition. If you would like to hold a fundraiser that will directly help you and women in your area with alopecia areata (rather than send money to a general fund where you have no idea where it goes), I would be delighted to assist you. What more and more women are doing is raising funds for the Bald Girls Do Lunch nonprofit. What we do is then use those funds specifically to promote and arrange for a lunch or dinner where that woman is located. Our awareness work and outreach will help you find more women in your college town/region at the same time giving you the kind of positive and uplifting awareness women with alopecia deserve.

heres an idea: a student gets a shirt that promotes alopecia awareness and the price for the shirts will be $1 to $5 dollars. also, put something extra like a goodie bag with stuff like candy, soda, a give card, i got nothing else off the top of my head.

I got another idea: have a 5K in your college (or within the college area). Next, during the event have free shirts that promote alopecia or that say important facts about alopecia (im not entirely sure which one). I got the idea off my friend running in 5Ks and I noticed that the 5Ks promoted something or someone (cancer, high school, a person, etc). The most important thing of all is the name of the 5K should most likely have the word "alopecia" in it.

haircuts are a good idea! hats or other hair accesories, those plastic bracelets that are gender nutural that you could have something about alopecia wrote on them. Candy always sells on campus at my school!!! We are allowed to eat it in class so that is probably why. I know with candy you can get it and have the wrappers printed with whatever you want it to say, maybe you write a proposal to hersery and see if they would give you a discount or make an extra donation for each one sold. The local sub shop here offered us flyers to give out which we added info about our sign language club onto then gave them out and everyone that ate there between a certain time frame, if they gave a flyer to the cashier then we got money from it. I think Hardees does that too. Do you have some close friends that you could recruit to help you do something? I'm doing my informative speach on alopecia in two weeks for my public speaking class. I think promoting awareness on campus is a great idea!
