Hi all,

I'm surprised not to see this already - there is a support group meeting happening on September 24th in the Crystal Lake, IL area (in Lakewood). Click here to see the NAAF event page for the Crystal Lake meeting.

I plan to attend this, and I hope to see some of you there.

Also an Art Sale in St. Charles on the 22nd, click here for link.

And a Chicago chocolate tour on the 22nd, click here for link.

Be well!

Wow, how crazy is it that I didn't see this until today on October 7th and I actually live in Crystal Lake, Illinois. How did the meeting go? Sorry to have not been aware of it.

I live in mchenry when is the next meeting

Next meeting is October 15th from 7-9 pm. It is at:
Crosspoint Lutheran Church
8505 Redtail Dr.
Lakewood, IL 60014

I will try to post a more formal post on this website today for everyone. I would love an RSVP if possible just so I have an approximate head count for setting up chairs. You can send an RSVP to alopeciaareatacrystallakeil@gmail.com .

Thank you, Squonk for posting this!

I will be there with bells on :-) Thanks!!

I want to see those bells, Mary Anne!!!

May I ask, what is it that actually happens at these meetings? Who comes to them? Do we have to talk? Do we have to mingle? Do we have to anything???

Jane- this will be our second ever meeting, so we haven't established a huge protocol. No, you do not have to talk if you are uncomfortable doing so. If you are comfortable you can. Just showing up is the biggest thing you have to do (I love an RSVP if possible just so I know about how many people will be there, but if not possible it isn't a necessity). It is open to anyone with AA, AU, AT or just alopecia of any kind as well as their family or loved ones. No age limit, young or old are welcome. Those that are comfortable sharing and talking can open up about their feelings on alopecia, what they've done in the past etc.

I am hoping to start having some guest speakers every now and again (may already have November's lined up) who can give advice on different aspects of things such as wigs, hair wraps, medications, etc. No one is allowed to sell anything at the meetings as it should just be informational only.

As far as mingling...the first meeting was a couple weeks ago and we went way over the hour I allotted so wasn't much time for mingling. So, if you aren't a mingler, no pressure to mingle. If you are a mingler, mingle away! I have extended the meeting time to 2 hours this time around so we don't feel so rushed a the end. If we don't use the whole 2 hours we don't use it, but it is there if we need it.

Some people have had alopecia for years, others just newly diagnosed. Some more comfortable than others with their alopecia, so really it runs the spectrum of feelings.

I think I, as I can't speak for everyone, just feel good to be in a room with others that have alopecia, even though I have been very comfortable with it for years.

Jane- our meeting is tonight if you are still interested in coming. 7-9 pm at Crosspoint Lutheran Church 8505 Redtail Dr. Lakewood, IL 60014

Amy
