Hey everyone,
This past winter I tried a gluten free diet(though i wasn't too strict with it; I would occasionally cave in and have a couple of beers on the weekend) to help improve my AU but unfortunately no signs of improvement came about. I started eating gluten again about 3 months ago with really no apparent health side effects that I'm aware of. I was wondering since I do have AU and because their was a common link between AA and celiac disease found in multiple studies is it just better to go back to gluten free? Regardless of regrowth? Any information/suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Tom
I developed AU in May of 2011 after being diagnosed in 2007 with Crohns/UC. I have only seen tiny white hairs here and there and I too did the gluten free, then I did raw food, then no coffee, minimal dairy etc...sadly still no regrowth if you get any great suggestions please send them my way I would do anything for eyebrows and lashes again =( Good luck.
Hi Tom,
I have AU and tried the comprehensive elimination diet for a few months (no gluten, dairy, eggs, potatoes, red meat, shelfish, alcohol, preservatives, etc) and saw no difference. I had no signs of regrowth and was trying to get pregnant so I came off the diet. I am mostly gluten-free (it's hard to curb pregnancy cravings) for about a year and am still without any signs of any hair growth. I keep up the gluten-free because I feel healthier on it but don't think it's made any difference with regards to my alopecia.
