Does your child's AA do better in the summer months?

My daughter has had AA since age 9, she is now 14.  She has been getting steroid injections for over 2 years, and now we are trying a new laser treatment (of course it is out of pocket) twice a week but have not seen anything yet.  She looses it in patches, and after time, they all grow back.  Currently she has a large patch.

During the summer months she has had complete regrowth.  We live in the Northeast and have had a cold, long, gloomy winter.  Has anyone experienced a connection between sun exposure and regrowth?  Her dermatologist has said that other patients have said the same thing.  I am also wondering if my daughter is less stressed in the summer and that is a contributing factor.  

I am so desperate to see her condition improve I am considering a greenhouse room - so she could get some sun exposure during our long winters - my husband thinks I am nuts, but I will do anything that could help her.  This sucks!

Look into her vitamin D levels and try to fix her diet. Get her off of gluten, processed food, and dairy and limit the amount of sugar she consumes. It's not a guaranteed fix but it's the best way I know how to slow down/stop/reverse and autoimmune attack such as alopecia. I follow a paleo diet but some others have had success with other all natural diets. Dairy and gluten are highly inflammatory for the body regardless if she has celiac or a lactose intolerance. You also might want to look into "topical immunotherapy" such as DCP and Squaric Acid (SADBE). Both are prescribed but the dermatologist and have moderate success rates. I am currently doing the SADBE treatment in conjunction with the diet described above. No guarantees but just thought I would share my thoughts with you. Thank you - I was speaking to someone recently who also said to get off gluten - we will give it a try.
