I was under the impression that hairdressers have 'portfolios'; a collection of photos of their work. I'm currently researching where to go get my wig cut, but they don't seem to have portfolios. Maybe that's not the done thing anymore.
I would be nervous about getting my hair cut by someone when I can't see examples of haircuts they've done in the past. I would have thought this was standard, or am I crazy? Otherwise, how on earth do you know if they're any good?
So to anyone who has had or is having a wig cut; did you look at examples of the hairdresser's work, or did you just blindly trust them to cut your wig? Mine is a very expensive wig which is why I'm anxious!
Thanks

Thank you Aimee. Good idea about getting them to just cut a tiny bit to start with. I'll do that.
Mary,
Where do you live? I have a list of stylist names. You would need to contact me by phone for this information.

Hi Carmen, Thank you very much for the reply. I actually live in the UK. I think I've settled on a stylist, just waiting now until I can actually put the wig on properly before I go to one as my rep has warned me that if it's not on properly when the stylist cuts it then they might cut it wonky! Thanks again :)
I found a hairdresser that sells wigs and works with people that have hairloss. I purchased my wig from her. She also wears a wig.
People who weave hair have portfolios, but in my experience, hairdressers do not. Find a good hair stylist by asking people whose hair styles you admire who does their hair. (I've even asked strangers in the grocery store, and they were always flattered and helpful.) If the stylist has not cut wigs before, talk openly about what you want your wig to look like. Cut a little hair at a time. Cutting and styling a wig is not that different from cutting natural hair. A new wig usually just needs to be shortened, layered, and thinned, as the style is already there. Bring a picture of the styled wig from the catalog or website where you bought it. You have to guide the hairdresser about the length you want and where you want layering or thinning to flatter your face and to suit your lifestyle. My wigs always look totally natural due to good thinning and layering. My current hairdresser first learned to cut wigs on mine, and she loves the "before" and "after" she gets to create for me.
Thank you, yes that's where I must have got the idea from, when I used to go to people for weaves or braiding. I've printed some pictures of the kind of style I want and I'll have a consultation with the stylist first. Thanks again for the advice
I always trust one chain of hair dressers. I know it may be stupid to trust brands because some independent hair dresser could have the same qualification. I just tr Haircuts are defiantly important for most and I believe that is the reason most people always get hair cuts with the same hair dresser for years and years.
