Hi there, everybody!

I'm a 16-year-old male in my sophomore year at high school. Just over this past summer (July,) right after my haircut, I noticed two small penny.-like round holes on the side of my head and on the back of my head. I really didn't think much of it until I had an appointment with my PCP and he told me I had alopecia areata. (Or however you spell it lol.) I went to the dermatologist around August, and she injected me with 10 mg of whatever they use for this. Anyways, the side of my head grew back, but the back of my head increased from around 3cm to 5cm. I just recently went in around middle to late November, and she didn't find any other bald spots than the one on the back of my head, which is nice. She injected 20ml of this stuff into the back of my head, and, so far, hairs have been popping up, and I think everything might turn out to be fine. That being said, I don't want it to be popping up again, so I was wondering if there were any ways for me to help prevent this from happening again.

As to be caused from stress, I started taking anxiety pills over the summer, and my anxiety has gone down significantly. My doctor said I was very, very deficient in iron, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Zinc. I really blew it off until I researched about alopecia and its relation to the lack of vitamins. So, I've been making an effort to pump my body full of this stuff. I've been getting rid of my chemical shampoo and getting some more natural shampoo so it's better on my hair. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

I really appreciate all of your help. I didn't really realize how important hair was to society as a whole until I started losing my hair. So I honestly can now say that I really think that you people are the bravest people in the world.

Thanks,

Henry

Just as an addition, recently the back of my hair has been growing a bit, but my scalp has been tingly and itchy. I'm trying not to scratch it but it's hard not to sometimes. Also, when I run my hand through the back of my head, I sometimes get a one or two hairs on my hand. When I wake up, there is typically 8-12 hairs on my pillow. Anyone have any idea what this means? Am I paranoid or is this normal? Thanks for the input so far
You must be using medications. It could result in itching and don't worry. Dont be paranoid about 10-12 hairs.
Selfproclaimed God? Big words.
Well i'll tell you my story.
I've been suffering my whole life from alopecia. First i was diagnosed with Aa at age of 6-8. I went through a lots of dermatologists, they injected me in the head, and hair started to grew ONLY where the injection was used. That means, i'd got 5-8 cm of 3 patches. It was painful. I stopped it, i used rogain, nothing happens. They gave me some anti fungal meds too. All in all, i stopped going to the drs, and started to keep my head clean. My prognosis was pretty good, i was careless, never used the meds regularly.
Well, ehen i was 18 i had a few patches, and some of it in the Eyebrows and eye-lids. I went to the barber, he said he can treat me. I had nothing to lose. He said your hair would grow in a month, and i said ok.
Well, now. This is what you have to do for a while.
1st you'll be needing a Razor blade (one that barbers have), potash alum(white stone). Look at your patch, from exactly the origin of patch, shave the patch and the area AFFECTED BY AA, so you in this you will cut some of your normal hair. (You have to shave the whole area in 360degree). (Example: if the patch would be the size of 2-3 cm, after shave in 360 arount it, it's size would be bigger to 3-4 cm.
now take that razer blade(sterilize it). Take the blade and know you've got to take the blood out by tapping the blade in a way that it cuts the skin but not too much bleeding(i've attached a picture. In the picture The Round is your AA affected area, and the RED lines are the blade tapping, try to think as you're opening the pores. After doing this just use a tissue, and rub potash alum on the area. Now, make sure to do it in afternoon or evening, so you. Could sleep at night. After 72 hrs, use a crushed garlic and rub twice a day for rest of the week.
Well, please try it, you won't get any fucking shit. You just try it, and PVT MSG ME. Cux everyfucking cunt is Dr here, and will tell you all the fucking reasons why not to use a fucking blade, but they will use fuckingSTEROIDS, cortisones, beacause they are prescribed by a Dr.

I found that Tea tree oil soothes the itching. It smells strong but it's really helped me.

And no, I don't trust treatment from doctors. I trust me, and I trust my own brain to sort out whats helpful from whats harmful.

Henry, AA is an autoimmune disease. The shots were a corticosteroid used to block T-cell funtion at the location. A standard first course of treatment.

Most AA patients never see the recurrence again.

A couple of years ago a Dr working on studying genes of people with AA (which she also suffers)found the genetic marker that predisposes us to this condition. This is our best hope at a cure which would involve gene splicing (therapy).

One hope on a case by case basis would be to understand what might have triggered the T-cell reaction. Have you had any traumatic injuries, surgeries, taken antibiotics? When referring to stress think in terms of things that change your immune system and avoid the. If possible. Antibiotics for example kill bacteria. Great for protecting against infection but an autoimmune system that has nothing to work on is one in search of work. Better to be working hard in your gut than at your skin.
