Hi everyone,

First off, thanks for being online - this site is a lifesaver.

I'm adjusting to my alopecia slowly, a couple of spots over the last 3 years developing into TE recently and bolt on a bit of MPB for good measure. All said, it's time to shave it off.

Now I'm nervous as a pig in a bacon factory but I think an electric razor is the way to go.
Any advice for me? Any makes/models?
I've greying hair anyway, so whats left probably won't make too much of a shadow (never thought I'd see grey hair as a plus point but there you go!)

Thanks in advance, any advice oni the practicalities of an electric solution would be helpful!

My plan is to get a decent tan, and shave morning/evening with the electric.
Grow some beard/stubble and keep that in trim (beard seems to be unaffected so far).

Thanks again.
Some truly inspiring people on here and a relief to be able to share.

Hi Greg,

I used a Norelco for years. Maybe about $75 or so.

Thanks Jeff, I went shopping yesterday (well looking anyway) and found a Braun Cruzer for €200.
It gets great reviews, I might give it a shot.
While on the subject of shaving heads, just how noticable are the alopecia patches after buzzing? I'm lucky that most of my hair is white (lads have taken to calling me Leslie Nielson of late.......) so I guess the patches won't contrast against my scalp so much. Every cloud and all that...

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Since your hair is light I dont think the patches will be that noticable. Especially once you get a suntan up top.

Good luck with everything. I hope you find a good razor.

HI Greg,

Before the last of my hair fell out I was using the Babylis for Men Easy Clipper 7435U.

It was really easy to use and it has a variety of settings depending how short you want to go.

Greg, I used Norelco for about two years.  It's great and easy.  The best advice I can give? Get a head shaving razor.  I always used the electric clippers and then one day I decided to use a real razor. It's the greatest feeling in the world. It looks good and you'll feel great. My biggest problem was that my head was mis-shaped, but apparently that was only in my mind.  Ladies love it and you'll feel good.

Thanks Tim (and everyone)......I'm still in that "halfway house" where I can just about disguise the patchiness/thinning but people have started asking questions :( So nearly time I think......thanks for the input everyone.

Just to be clear. When/if you shave, buzz it first then use an electric razor made for a face for a smooth finish!

Good point Jeff, I'm so used to just shaving it with the head razor every other day or so, that I forgot when I started, I had to clip it down.

Thank you for posting this!  I have been wondering the same.  I bought clippers to give myself a buzz cut but it doesn't get it as short as I would like.  I have been wondering what would be better, a razor or electric.

I always liked an electric shaver and use of a pre-shave lotion. Never once got a nick, cut or even a razor burn.

I tried razors, even the headblade and I always ended up with cuts. Ouch!!!
