Hello everyone!

I am trying to organize a small event for us alopecians in san francisco mid december.
I am looking for ideas, suggestions, and your experience with such things....

So far I have reached out to makeup artists, bald performers, and sephora. any other ideas about how to make a fundraiser fun?

thanks for your ideas

You sound like you are doing a great job. Have you talked with Jeff (here). There is a very active San Francisco alopecia community and I'm sure he will have some good ideas. At the naaf conference this year him and his parter were selling great dog tag necklaces.

I think having red henna tattoos done on any smooth bald heads, regardless of how they got bald...or fun Christmas/holiday/sports/message face-painted designs for $10 each would be a riot, and would probably get a lot of TV coverage (let stations know well in advance). You might contact Academy of Art teachers and students, henna experts (check the safety for those getting shots for anything applied to the head), make-up or tattoo artists...and be sure to have hand-washing, rubber gloves, fresh paints, water and appliers etc. on hand. See if a major beauty shop could supply the venue, with hot cider and hot chololate served outside or in a nearby cafe willing to donate funds. Maybe a whole block of businesses can be a part of it, and a nearby hotel with happy hour giving discounts to anyone with alopecia that weekend. Find some photographers to set up formal portraits with nice background for even more money to come to the cause (people may be wanting resulting images for Facebook or actual gift prints). Pick a dance place to party bald and painted for later; again, with part of the cover fee or drink/food money going to your group. The next morning, for anyone still in town, meet at a nice place or hotel lobby to interview and record feelings and impressions about the event. Participants can stay anonymous if they wish. Interview the sponsors, too, and be sure to advertise any place that treated bald folk positively.

hi everyone, still trying to figure out how to forward my invite to you, but in the meantime, if you go the events list under dec 11 2011 my event is posted and id love to see my bay area homies there!!
