I have a question for you. Have you found anyone in your family tree with AA, AU or AT? We just got together with extended family on Thanksgiving and found out that my great uncle probably had it, and his two daughters were totally bald. They just wore wigs all the time so most of us didn't know!

They were from a much older generation, I guess, where conditions like AA just weren't talked about. Nice that in current times we can be right out in the open with it!

HI Pamela,
I was diagnosed w/AA at 18 months of age - have been AU for 30 yrs. My mother had AU in her teens, my eldest sister has AA (injections are working for her now), my other sister & her daughter both have androgenetic (female thinning) hair loss. We also have lots of other autoimmune diseases. Current research is looking at the genetic end esp. with families like mine with many occurences. Interesting how you never knew your cousins wore wigs. How long have you had AA?

Thanks for your response. I am still learning so much about AA. My 10 year daughter just started with it in August this year. (I don't have it.) It started with one spot and now she has lost most of her hair on her head and some of her eyelashes. I find your family history of this interesting. That is a lot of women with some form of hairloss! Until my daughter came up with it, we never knew anything about AA.
