This is my story in short. I was 5 years old when I was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. When I was 28 and a couple of weeks pregnant with my second child I notice some hair missing in back of my head I went to a dermatologist and he said if I take steroid shots it would grow back being pregnant and a diabetic it is not a good idea to do. So I waited until my child was born by then I lost all my hair all over my body. I kept hoping once I gave birth my hair would grown back (didn't happen :() I went to another dermatologist and she basically told me there is nothing to do and she said I have an overactive immune system (diabetes, alopecia etc). The same way it fell out it can grow back. It has been 5 years and nothing happened( I went through another pregnancy and birth since then and things stayed the same. I did tattoo eyebrows and eyeliner. IT IS THE BEST THING EVER, and I wear a wig or hat everyday. My question is what is the percentage that one of my kids carry the gene? Does anyone know? Does anyone know of a parent and a child having alopecia?
Thanks for your help,
Laya

I also read in an article that alopecia needs needs many genes and that is why it is not usually passed down to our children.
Wish I knew. I'm pregnant now and hoping baby has hair! !
the gene has a volume control on it...put the organism in the wrong surrounding, and the gene may wake up loud
Hello, I've read various reports and they all seem to be within the range of 7-10% (chance of alopecia for child if a parent has). I do know a few cases of parent and child - but they are quite rare.
