I just joined the group after being in a bit of denial. I have had 3 episodes of AA - my first at 22, second at 26 and now at 34. I was very lucky the first few times and recovered in 6 months back to my normal self. This time it's not going so well. I have lost almost 90% of my hair on my head (before I had spots). I am going on 6-7 months with it getting progressively worse. Topical steroids, minoxidil, methotrexate and now cyclosporine to little avail. I recently went to a immunologist (as I have been diagnosed with hashimotos too and my weight has fallen off to a point I am very skinny. Anyhow as most of you guys know tofacitinib is pricey. My immunologist has said he is happy to write me a script so I can try and source it from another country where it is cheaper. He will monitor me while on it and in Australia it's legal to import up to 3 months at a time for personal use. I have looked around at some sites and I found one IN India which offers PayPal and a reasonable (still not cheap) price. Have any of you guys had experience doing this? I am scared of being scammed but feel like I really need to fight this as much as possible for my mental health. Can you guys give any advice? I'm a bit desperate and am finding it tough going being a mum of two littles, holding down a professional job and supporting a very career orientated husband in my current state.

Thanks for all the help.

to my knowledge Turkey has one of the best price... I am not sure about India.
be careful of not being scammed.
Some manufacturers/suppliers in other countries are offering the molecule tofacitinib also. so it is not the Pfizer brand, it's black market basically the price is VERY cheap. but on the other hand you don't really know what you are getting... unless u give it to a lab to test it.

we, alopecians, are in a vulnerable position. whatever option you choose I wish you all the best.

Autoimmune disease are so unpredictable and scary. sometimes I feel lucky it's only alopecia universalis. I knew personally 1 person who had scleroderma and another 1 with vasculitis. both of them died very young...
Thanks so much for that. Yes we are in a vulnerable position - my immune system is generally not good so Alopecia is one of a few issues I have. My hashimotos gives me grief- mainly uncontrollable weight loss and I have a Lot of trouble with my pregnancies and births due to my body attempting to reject various body bits and poeces. The Alopecia for me is hard as I know it upsets my daughter (5) and, even before I got it I had a masssive phobia associated with it due to a childhood friend getting AU and never really having it explained to us. We loved her but it was scary to see your friend go through that with no real explanation. So mentally I'm quite weak. I see a psychiatrist and psychologist to try to work through this but I must say I remain absolutely frozen by fear by this whole thing.

I'll do some googles on tofacitinib- I'm thinking of going with an Indian supplier mainly because he accepts PayPal And wants to see my script from my doctor- 2 good signs. Other suppliers have seemed "overly keen" - and are western union users- something that's rings bells of ware OMG on my head....,

Thanks so much for answering- fingers crosssed and I update once I go through the process.
