This is a really touchy ordeal that I'm experiencing . Im a healthy 25 year old mother of four and have a smooth bald spot on top of my head . It's odd because it seemed like it happened over night . I went to the doctors and had my blood tested for everything that might cause this to happen and it all came back normal. My doctors then asks me if I've had a lot of stress going on . Well I put itthis way to her , my father died about 18 months ago and since then I had an abortion , had another baby , had my tubes tied and also had to recently move back into my inlaws with my four children and there are two already here from my sis in law to top it off Im the only working parent . Yes this may sound stressful , but could it be that severe to cause this to hapen to me ? Another thing I heard Is that a tooth infection can cause bald patches on head Is ths true . someone please respond Im going crazy with each strand that I lose . I'm severly depressed now and don't even feel like my self anymore. HELP

Aww sweetie. I feel your pain. I literally woke up with my scalp pain and the hair loss shortly after. I was under severe stress as well having my grandmother pass away and work, school, men, etc... Yours sounds like it could be Telogen Effluvium (TE). It's a stress related loss of hair that usually starts about 3 months after the stressful situation. A dermatologist can easily diagnosis this with what's called a pull test. He/she will lightly pull your hair and see how many strands come out that are in the Tellogen phase. This phase is also know as the "resting phase". The hair goes through 3 cycles before it falls out naturally. When stressed, the body forces up to 70% or so of your hair into the resting phase when it then falls out. A normal hair that comes out should have a small white bulb of keratin attached to the part in the scalp. I wasn't diagnosed with TE. Mine seems to fall out more where it hurts and along the partline and temporal regions. The hair seems to fall out more when there is pain. I still don't know what is going on and I went in for more labs today. I know what you mean about not feeling yourself. My life has virtually stopped since this happened. I have become a hermit when I used to love people. I am scared of being touched because of the pain. If you move any hair on my head, it feels like knives. I have been suicidal and am thinking of checking myself into a psych ward for more intensive help because sometimes I just don't want to face the future. This site has been a blessing! Everyone is so kind and BEAUTIFUL! They show a new side and beauty to being bald and if that is my fate as well, then I know I am not alone and will show it off! I just want the severe scalp pain gone! I am here if you ever need an ear. I hope you find out what's wrong and I would love to hear from you again!
My strands do have a tiny white bulb at the end .It dosn't seem to fall out by pulling it , it's in the shower and brushing it . But ten again I have super thick hair and have always had alot of hair come out . I definitley feel like this is driving me crazy its on my mind constantly. I don't really talk about it with anybody cause I feel ashamed and a little enbaressed , I guess . One day I felt like I was having a panic attack and I could't functon at work or with my kids . I had to go back to the doctors for my anxiety I was experiencing . Everyone at my job thinks I'm like this emotional rollercoaster cause one day I'm happy and the next really quiet and short and obviously depressed . They can tell that I'm not the same me anymore . I haven't feltlike "me" in a while now . I just wish I can feel normal again . I hate being depressed . But even with all this that is going on with me suicide hasn't crossed mind . That should never be an option on how who are going to deal with your situation . I'm really sorry about your pain cause I hate pain and I would going crazy if I had to be in pain all the time . Have your ever heard bout a fungul infection on your scalp that causes red itchy burning scalp ? thank you for reponse i really appreciate it . If you neeg a listening ear I'm here
A friend of mine experienced the same thing after a surgery, this could be whats going on with you. Stress i rekon is a major factor though...my friends bald spot did get better. I however started loosing hair after my son suffered a major seizure, out of the blue and had to be put into an induced coma until a diagnosis was found. He is ok...epilepsy, and under control...but my hair kept falling out. I eventually shaved off what was left.....so hard, but now i have some peace about it. I saved up and got a beautiful human hair wig, people who dont know mw could never tell the difference and the people who do know me dont care!! stay strong
Never heard of a tooth infection as a cause of hair loss...could be..have you gone to a dermatologist?? Early signs of Alopecia can be treated with Cortisone creams ...I have Alopecia and in early stage was treated with a cortisone gel with good results....
Stress can have a lot to do with it though...I started loosing mine after a divorce and got worse after a battle over child support...good luck to you!
Jean
I don't have anything to support my analogy but when I was 33 years old I had gum surgery and no soon after, my hair was gone. I am convinced the two are corolated. I wish I had answers!!!
