Hi there!
A little bit of background: I'm a 24-year old male who was diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium 2 years ago.........as you may have read about the condition, it came after a very traumatic incident (my home was destroyed by flooding). I was told it would re-grow as stress decreases - but with my personality and circumstances, stress is usually fairly high! Some of it has certainly re-grown, but not with particularly great strength.
It looks like diffusely thin hair, and I don't have any bald patches or anything.......so my family says it's not that bad (I think they need their eyes checked) and I should just get over it, that I'm vain, etc..........but nonetheless, I continue to feel absolutely crushing shame, to the point where I almost never go outside. I was already shy to begin with but the hair loss made it 100 times worse. I think if I were a girl I would be 'allowed' to feel bad about it more or less, but because I'm male I'm supposed to be unconcerned or something. Screw that.
So I have decided to invest in some wigs so I can finally feel some kind of connection to the rest of the world again. As luck would have it, there's a wig shop right down the street from me! But I'm still WAYYY too scared to go in, since trying on wigs is kind of a strange thing for a dude :/
Hopefully I'll be up for that someday, but for now I feel limited to ordering online....I figure as I learn more about wigs through experience I'll be able to know exactly what I want in one and make a bigger purchase....right now I know there are a variety of different kinds of wigs, and I just ordered a demure cosplay one with which I intend to cut off the ponytail :P
But I would also like some recommendations.....I'm looking for under $100 for right now - it can be a female wig that is easily cut, something that doesn't attract too much attention, and isn't difficult to order online.....I don't intend to wear it all day, only whenever I go out - certainly no swimming or super-vigorous activity; as long as the wind won't blow it off....reasonably comfortable and realistic (duh).
If you have any knowledge to share with me, I would sincerely appreciate it! If you managed to read all that....thanks for your attention!

I read your post and even though I can't really pass on any recommendations for you at this time I felt for you with regards to the expectation for men and the discomfort and pain they feel around hairloss. I look after many people with alopecia including boys and men. In my experience it does seem to be somewhat frowned upon when a man feels upset or concerned. I personally think you have every right to do what you feel is right for you around your hairloss and you are right when you ignore people's comments about 'being tough'.
I wish you well looking for a wig that helps.
Take care
Rosy
