Does Anyone have any experience with any of these groups and obtaining free children's' wigs?

My 12 (almost 13) year old developed AA in May and has since lost 90% of her hair. She is in competitive cheer and currently wears clip in hairpieces, but she is losing more hair and they are not going to work much longer.

She is currently undergoing treatment via Kenalog injections...I'm on the fence about these. She does have some patches that are growing back but I'm not sure these injections are good for her long term.

It is heartbreaking and frustrating being a parent of a child with Alopecia. I see her as a beautiful, strong girl, but I know underneath she is struggling with this.

If you have any information about the Hair Club, Wigs for Kids or Children with Hairloss programs I would be grateful for your knowledge and experience.

Thanks,

Hope

Hello

I know a little about all these programmes and I'm also a mum (my daughter has had Alopecia for the last 11 years).  In New Zealand I help people with Freedom Wigs.  I'm not going to talk about Freedom, but just felt it appropriate that I let you know who I am.

When looking for an alternative for your daughter I feel it is very important to work through the needs around your daughters lifestyle.  Before you decide on any type of wig think about what those needs are.  Then I would think it would be helpful to work out limitations and advantages of all the wigs available to you.  I know I did this with my daughter (with her help) and wrote a list of the things we needed to work for her so she could get on with her life.  Our list was security (without glues and tape), realistic (looked like her hair and could be treated like her hair...ponytails etc), easy to care for (we wanted a wig that the hair could be washed in the shower with normal shampoos by her), Lifestyle (something she could swim in, go on rollercoasters etc), Longevity( we really didn't want to change her wig every few months...we wanted her hair to be her hair), durability (lasted a reasonable amount of time).  For us budget even though a concern was not the guiding force.

Write your list and find a wig that matches it ....hairclub and the other programmes available may work well.

Good luck with everything.
