Has anyone ever made a wig out of their own hair?

If they sell human hair wigs, why can't we use our own hair? Does everyone just throw their hair in the garbage as they collect it all over the place? Everyday for the past year my hair has been falling out. I started having some new growth a couple of months ago on all the bald spots. I still have some of my original hair left which is still coming out everyday. I've never told anyone that I've been collecting my strands and putting them in a baggy, one reason is maybe I could have a wig made of my own hair and two is that it is hard for me to let go of it forever, like I have an attachment to it, it is part of me that I may never see again. Maybe I'm crazy, but I can't let go yet. I'm I?

I know the answer to this because I asked my wig maker, Brenda Kay, if I could collect hair from my friends to make a wig. She said it would take three or four heads of hair to make one wig. So if you wanted to use your own hair, you would have to grow it out fully and have it cut at least three times.

Wow LeslieAnn, I guess that kills that idea. I'm still obsessed to saving whatever strands I can gather. Though my hair is not on my head, I still have it. For some weird reason, it makes me feel like it's not a total loss. Before AA, I used to clean my brush and dump out wads of hair and not think anything of it. This disease is still new to me. Maybe I'll get tired of collecting it one day and toss it, but not today. )-:
