Hey all,

Still trying to find wigs.....ugh....... As far as I know does anywhere in Canada actually sell ROP wigs in a Salon? I hate looking at wigs online and guessing what they will look like on me. They never look the way they look in those pictures......I have tried website after website with those "wigs for your face shape" and I get different results on each site.......Anyways I ordered the ROP color ring. The colors are gorgeous but they look soooooo "shiny" to me. To me it just screams "Doll hair"...Yuck..... Do any people out there buy ROP, Noriko and Amore wigs? Do the actual wigs look as "Matel Toyish" looking as the rings? Please say they look beautiful the wigs...... I am getting so desperate and depressed about all of this. I have even called and left a message with the company Rene of Paris asking where the closest salon in the states is compared to where I live in Ottawa....I seriously will get on a jet and fly down there to try them on.......

Lori,

I do have a ROP that I ordered from wilshirewigs.com It has highlights and lowlights so it doesn't have that "shiny" doll hair effect. Also you might want to consider and human hair wig, the pros are they don't have the itchy, barbed wire feeling, they can be style, washed & blow dryed, and colored.

I just got my first human hair wig, and can't wait to get it trimmed and thinned so I don't look like helmet hair.

Hey Lori!

I actually have a human hair wig and I payed really big bucks for it. I got it highlighted and trimmed up and got it home and still hate the thing. It is cut in a bob hairstyle and I am more the layered wispy style type of gal....I could have bought quite a few synthetics for that one human hair. It feels so heavy on my head too. I thought I liked it when I left the salon but I hate the thing with a passion now so now it sits alone on the wig head in my bedroom......

What ROP wig did you order? Did you have it trimmed up? My problem is finding someone to trim them up....
Would the stylist trim the wig even if you didn't buy it from them? The people here in Ottawa that sell wigs I really get the feeling unless you buy a wig from them they won't trim them up for you. They just don't seem that accomodating. There is one lady who is about a half an hour out of town who I have just recently gone to. Of course she doesn't carry ROP wigs. I saw one by Alan Eaton I think called Freedom. Anyways I may buy that one from her just in order to be able to go and take wigs I order online to her to have them trimmed. She seems to know how to do wild stuff with wigs.

I am just so frustrated because I can't see what the ROP wigs look like in person. I know for a fact that they don't look like they do in the picture. I wish there was someone I could talk to at a salon who could take a picture of the wig I like on someone and show me what it ACTUALLY looks like. I am interested in the wig "Jamie" by ROP.....
I also wanted to know if anyone found the bangs weird on these wigs. The reason I am asking is I bought a wig from the person who shall remanin nameless in Ottawa. She told me that her wigs were made especially for her...NOT.....I later found out when I took the wig with me to another shop that is was in fact a ROP wig. He showed me where she cut the tags off. Anyways the wig has weird bangs. They literally stick out giving a Frankenstein kind of look as though someone has taken a curling iron to them right where the hair of the bangs join the base of the wig. So you get a big "wow" in them. They don't sit right at all. If the wig came like that or it is a result of her messing around with it I would like to know. If the bangs are put in funny then I won't order a wig and be stuck with yet again another "dud".
Hi Lori,

I've been wearing wigs for about two months now. I normally wear Amore Codi during the week and ROP Shannon on weekends. After trying and returning quite a few wigs, these were the first ones I actually kept. The picture in my profile shows the Amore Codi.

In most of conditions, the "hair" looks fairly natural. There is more shine than with bio hair only in really bright light. It's not that bad, so I decided not to care.

Similar to you, I found it rather difficult to find wigs that don't look like Dolly Parton hair. Codi and Shannon actually did not need thinning, but many wigs come with too much hair. I also learned that wigs often look strange out of the box, I usually looked like a conehead when I tried them on. This often gets better after washing the wig.

I order at www.namebrandwigs.com, as their prices are the lowest I have seen. If you decide to order on the Internet, you should check the shop's return policy. It's always a good thing if you are able to return as the color ring only tells you which base colors are used in a wig and it does not tell you how the are combined. Unfortunately, this can vary with the wig style. For example, my Shannon and Codi are both in Marble Brown, but Shannon is much darker ...
Hi Lori
It's at times like this I wish I could jump on a plane and come and help you.
I live in Scotland and am a hairdresser that has worked within the wig industry for 12 years. It must be so difficult for you to buy wigs on line. and even harder if you have not found a sympathetic wig specialis in your area.
I fit Rene of Paris wigs and If I could give you a few pointers I will do my best.

Linda
Wicked awesome!!! I have waited sooooooooo long to talk to someone who knows these wigs and works with them. Could you tell me what the ROP "Jamie" wig really looks like? It looks in the picture exactly what I would like but I can't tell what the back looks like. It looks like the current haircut I have in the picture on my page of my daughter and I in August. It basically is a funky razor cut grown out. I am looking for a long layered cut because that is what I am most used to. Bobs just don't do it for me.....I have a long face. Funny thing is I had my hair super short and loved it but the super short wigs just don't do it for me.

Oh yeah how do the bangs hang on these wigs? Do they hang straight down or do they stick out a bit? I have one wig which a wig salon was trying to pass off as her own and I later found out could be a ROP or Noriko wig according to another wig salon I visited. He showed me where the tag was cut off. Anyways it was altered because I didn't like this row of blonde underneath the bangs because it made the wig look like there was a white band showing under the bangs. She removed the blonde underneath and may have added an extra band. I am not sure but the result was the bangs jut out before going down almost a Frankenstein look or look as if you had put a roller in them to curl them under....Nasty. I had already bought the wig and of course was rushed through in the salon. It was when I took it home I noticed it was messed up. It is definitely in either Caffee Lattee or Chocolate Swirl. I am thinking it may be Sky by Noriko.

I have seen the different websites that say that Jamie would be a good one for me. oblong face ...Are there any other ones that are layered that would look nice from the ROP, Amore or Noriko line on an oblong face?

Could you also tell me what Coffee Latte looks like? I have the color rings but holy cow it is so hard to tell what that will look like. I don't want really dark because I have fair skin, freckles and amber or hazel eyes....I am kind of thinking of the Maple Sugar or Marble brown. I would go with coffee Latte if it doesn't turn out to be dark...Ohhhhhhhh so many questions....Time is running out for me as I return to work January 5th.......

I appreciate your help Linda sooooo much!
Hi Lori
Just about finished writing this and my computer crashed !!!!Urgh so I'll try again.
Forgive me if I am giving you information you already know but here goes.
ROP have 3 ranges, Amore which all have monofilament tops, Noriko which are mostly fully wefted with a few mono tops and High Fashion which are all fully wefted. This is where the Jamie wig fits in.
Mono tops are generally thought to be more natural than the wefted as the top is hand knotted on a fine see through mono top which makes it look like the hair is coming from your scalp, has more natural parting etc. You say you still have about 70% of your hair. This makes mono tops more difficult to wear as the band at the front, meant to grip on to scalp slips on hair.
There is generally too much hair on a wig so it is important to find someone you trust to cut it "just for you"
The way a fringe lies on a wig can vary each time you buy even if you buy the same style. This can depend on how it was packed in the box from the manufacturer. In general if you buy a wig like this, send it back, if it is from a shop ask them to fix it and if it's not right don't take it. simple as that.
There is a way to fix this yourself but I will leave that to another time as it is a bit tricky.
You said you had Sky before, how was the length and weight on top for you? this would give me a better guide on what to advise as I have to say when I first looked at your profile picture I thought Zoe would have been a good one although reading more I think you would find this too short. ( I'm sure by the way that when naming the wigs they got Zoe and Lizzy mixed up as Lizzy pic is more like Zoe)
Again maybe your picture don't show true colour but Coffe Latte looks too dark, Maple Sugar or Mochaccino would be good I think.
The sites you look at, do they give you information such as fringe, nape and crown length. If not try to find a site that does. This will give you a better guide. If not I can post them here for you.
Jamie is a nice wig and the back has the same movement as you see at the sides. Manufacturers are making fibre finer so they look more relistic to start with but the life is shorter. You will find that movement drops very quickly from a style as you wear it. If you are used to using products in your own hair, try a little on the wigs also this can keep them looking more natural and preserve the movement a bit longer as long as you don't overdo it.
Another question, did you find that the Sky wig fitted ok or did it feel loose and baggy. If so size is another thing I could help you do yourself.
I know time difference will slow things up a bit but if you could give me guidlines based on Sky, then maybe I can help a bit more.
By the way what a little cutie your daughter is,
Spk soon
Linda
Hey Linda! Thanx so much for replying so quick!!!!!

i am not entirely sure if it is Sky.... I think it is because I don't see anything in the Amore line that looks like it. It isn't a mono top for sure. It looks like London but London is a hair adhancer I think. The only reason I think it is sky is because I am pretty sure the colors are either Chocolate swirl or Caffe Latte..... It is really dark with a lighter caramel highlights through the back and then the bangs have kind of a bit of blonde through them. There is definitely three colors in this wig.... I went through ones that looked like it and there weren't that many that had those colors listed.

Hmmmm the wig to be quite truthful has sooooo much hair so honnestly I wouldn't wear it as is. The cap fits ok and I think it is average size. I just fine when you look at me straight on there looks like so much hair...almost mushroom head....And it feels way too dark. The length is ok I guess but I am not used to having hair hang down towards the front of my face if that makes any kind of sense. This is what that wigs tends to do. The hair curves towards my face. I am so used to having hair away from my face even with the short razor cut grown out I always had it feathered back.

I saw another wig recommended for long faces and it is called Reese. What is that wig like? I can't really see the back of it either.

Jamie as far as the back goes does it flip right out at the back as well the layers or do they hang straighter like Sky does? If they flip out a lot can they be trimmed not to flip out so much? sorry just trying to get as much info as possible. Is Jamie a nice wig? Do many people buy it? Does it have tonnes of hair and can it be trimmed down to be not so wiggy and look natural?

I used to wear the Raquel welch Sizzle. I loved her hairspray and that was what I used to make that wig do what I wanted it to do. I wore that wig for two years. I wore it not because of Alopecia but because of hairloss which happened two months after a major surgery. That wig was great! But now we have all seen me with short hair and know there is no way I could ever grow big hair so that is what I am trying to avoid.....Before I went from long hair pulled back in a pony tail to short hair so no one knew what I would look like going short so any wig I could have pulled off. Now it is a different story.......

I really appreciate your help so much!!!! I seriously have to get this wig ordered soon because I need it trimmed up and ready before Jan 5th which leaves me with not much time especially since I live in Canada and will be ordering from the States....

Funny thing with me and color. Before I started losing my hair I had my hair three colors.... It was chocolate brown, bright red and blonde... It was wild! I loved it. That was first pic of myself and my daughter when we first got her....short and wild hair...Now anything really dark I feel horrid in. I am not a fan of going blonde either even though I was blonde when I got married. How light is Maple Sugar. I can never tell with the color rings at all how the blend will be. I have been a carmel color and tend to stay away from ash colors. I don't know if you guys do "colors" over there or seasons? I am a "Spring" so warm colors etc. What is marble brown like? Is it a blended color with or a brown with highlights? I definitely want there to be obvious highlights and not a blend.... Any ideas on those type of colors. Again the color rings show you colors but you don't know how they will appear on the wig....

I appreciate this sooooooo much!!!!!!
Hi Lori
The hairdresser that has cut your hair into the razor cut or coloured it with the three colours, do you have a good relationship with her? could she help with the wig? It is always important to show "you" under a wig so cutting it away from the face to see "you" is important. If you do not feel sure get her to cut the one you can't wear first to see the results. You wear the wig it does not wear you. If you can get someone to understand that then you have loads of choice
There is a range of wigs from ROP that has a crown lift that can't be changed easily Reese is one of those. If you look inside a wig the top piece is in the shape of what I call a horseshoe. On the hair side of that the last 1" of the horseshoe at the crown area, manufacturers have given an extra lift. It is called permatese.(xcuse the spelling) It is where they give an extra "frizz" at the root area to give lift. If you want an extra lift at the crown then thats ok. But this may make you look as if you have more hair and I don't think you need that.
Maple Suger is the darker colour on your shade ring with the lighter colour being hilites.
Marble Brown would be too flat a colour for you thats for sure it's a blend not two tone. Most of the Hybrant shades are darkest colour at base with lighter as hilites.
Hybrant shades are Auburn Sugar (beautiful but may be too dark), Apricot Frost ( a bit Ginger), Coffee Latte (dark for you),Copper Glaze (strawberry blonde?) Creamy Toffee (def too light) Iced Mocha (dark base on your shade ring with lighter hilites), Maple Sugar (as before), Mochaccino (as before)
Gradient colours give the impression of having roots growing in after a colour. Can look ok in some colours and OMG in others.
Hope this helps a bit
I'll keep trying

Linda
Oh Linda you are so patient and such a doll....

I don't know if the hairdresser I used to go to that gave me the funky haircuts knows wigs unfortunately. I love the girl though! I am going to try a salon in a town about a half an hour from me on Friday. She actually does work with wigs this lady and seems to know what she is doing but she doesn't carry the ROP wigs just like everyone else here in Ottawa, Canada. I have ordered in the wig "Courage" by Alan Eaton just because it is the only thing remotely close to what I want. It still has lots of hair but this lady seems to have a bit of a clue about wigs so we will wait an see about that. I feel like I have to buy a wig from her before I can actually order wigs online and bring then to her to cut them for me.

I ordered the wig called "Snap" by Paula Young which is a layered razored cut wig but it needs to be trimmed and the colors they offer are so boring....The only the would look any good on me was the medium brown with light brown highlights. When I got it the wig was just a brown wig so the colors were blended. The wig was super cheap too so not the best quality but it is one of those you could wear out to get the groceries and hope no one sees you from work! LOL. It needs to be cut though so I am hoping I can talk this lady into cutting it for me on Friday. I desperately want a ROP though for sure....

Thanks for the heads up on the color Marble Brown.... I definitely don't want boring....LOL.....so most likely mochachino, or Maple sugar then. Any other colors that would be along those lines but not so boring as marble brown? Sorry just so frustrating all of this...Gradient colors don't really interest me that much guess because with the horrible color I have right now (Golden Blonde yuck) and the lovely dark roots it just doesn't appeal to me!

So basically what types of styles would look ok on someone who has a long face. My face is long but not that wide....What styles don't have the horshoe thingy you were talking about too?

It is such a treat to talk to someone who knows these wigs inside out! I still appreciate everyone elses input too but a stylist who deals with these wigs just makes my day. You know you have been more helpful with wigs in general than any of the people I have dealt with here in Ottawa. Yesterday I went back to one of the first salons to check out more wigs. I had made an appointment. I get there and the person that does the wigs wasn't even there. She had stayed home with her daughter so I got stuck with a stylist who basically doesn't know much about wigs. I asked her if I could look at some catalogues and she said the wig person had them at home with her so I got to look at 3 wigs in total. One was a chocolate Bob but Bobs just don't do it for me with all that hair hanging straight down in my face. The other was kind of like Sky but a blonde... Of course the girl is telling me I look wonderful in both wigs.....NOT.....So there you have it the wig service here in Ottawa. She also told me they couldn't order any more wigs in for me because they had already ordered enough for their shop for the year......Yikes talk about no service here at all......We need more people like you Linda! You know people who understand and are willing to help. Gosh this is pretty much one of the most horriffic things I have gone through in my life.... To get hair that makes me feel like me would be wonderful but the hair places here don't get that. All they see is the almighty $$$$$ so they want to get you in and out as fast as they can and are happy to sell you anything. One person told me that basically all women know what looks good on them so offered no ideas on color or style....This is the one I walked away with the two dark wigs one of which was messed up the bangs.....

Anyways thanks for helping me with all of this!

Lori...

Lori.....
Ohhhhh I wanted to ask you about the wig Ellie too. Is it a nice wig? Would it be ok on an oblong face? Gosh I am looking at every layered wig that is out there right now.

I've a mono top wig and it is either in caffe Latte or chocolate swirl so it has to be an Amore wig...maybe it is Allison as it flips out at the back at the top and the sides and at the bottom is it cropped close to the neck.....

I have about 70% of my hair but it is going fast. I go see the dermatologist on the 10th of December whether or not I get the horrible shots to maybe stop me from progressing to worse will depend on what they have to offer and pain....I have decided not to cut it short just yet but just wear the wig caps or nets under the wigs for the time being.... The thought of cutting it super short to go under the wig and having these big gapping bald spots is something I am not ready to deal with yet and shaving my head is out of the question right now. Guess I still need to get to that point where I am ready but not right now.....

I know the mono tops look the most natural but can the non mono types still look natural if they are trimmed down?

Lori......
