I really need help with what type of wig to get next. I am getting to the point where I am wearing out my current one.
I tend to only have one at a time because of them being so expensive.
I started out with synthetic wigs with the mono top thingy and the wefts at the back, I hate these wigs I have plenty of horrible experiences thanks to them, looking wiggy and coming off easily.
I then got one of the silicone vacuum wigs but is lasted 3 years which I suppose is a good life span but then it needed repairs which I have to send it back to New Zealand for and it just sounds like a hassle because they can't tell you if it is repairable until they assess it. So i decided not to go through that process. Because I would need a new wig anyway.
I then got a human hair version of the synthetic wig which has lasted 2 years but i feel like I paid a fortune for it just because of the place and the brand it was. I still got it cheaper because someone ordered it and never collected it and it was sitting in the store.
I have been looking at lace wigs for a while but I am not sure I can face that whole gluing process. I hate wefts so I want to avoid those so front lace wigs are out and they still need glue. I was thinking about glueless lace wigs but I have no hair so I don’t think that will work...
I am really frustrated, I am going to try and see if out medical aid/insurance will pay for some of the costs. Most of the wigs that are targeted towards alopecia are just too expensive.
I just want something that is cost effective, not wiggy and semi-secure.... I was hoping that maybe there are some other options you guys have tried that I can see if I can get hold of here?

I have the same issue...all the wigs that are medical/alopecia wig are so expensive and most of us cant afford them...i get my wigs online at around $400 (for long around 20 in in length) they're not the best quality hair but they claim it to be human hair and etc=)) i wear full lace wig with pu around the perimeter...the gluing process can be kinda messy i prefer to use a tape instead of a glue...the tape doesnt seem to stick well to the lace thats why i order pu (think skin 1in) around the perimeter and that helps. If you get glueless wig i think it might not be secure and slide off easily....with this pu, think skin ( if u have bald head) its kinda secure, if you dont glue it down ...but i still prefer to glue it down with tape.
Hi Aimee
While I was waiting for my Freedom I ordered a product online called Dermafix (US, but they ship to SA), which are little thin strips of silicon that you can sew into your wig (lace, wefted, whatever). I used a synthetic wig with the dermaifx sown in strips around the wig and it never came off, and I live in Cape Town where the wind is crazy! You can wear them with absolutely no hair, or with very very short 'buzz cut' kind of hair if you have some regrowth. Before that, I used a double sided tape (also US, but they ship to SA, although you can get something equally as good at any wig store), which was also very easy. I must also add that if you have a little growth a full lace wig works well too because it kind of 'velcro' sticks to the hair that you do have. I just want to add I ordered my derma fix strips from Lori's wig site and they shipped to SA via DHL, so it was a bit pricy but well worth it. They also do the wigs with the derma fix already in, but I had a wig so I ordered just the strips. If you're careful with sewing them in, you can easily remove them and add to another wig when you change.
Hope that helps.
