Hi There,

I was wondering if other females with AU/AT on here may have had some similar experiences to me. I've had AU/AT since I was 12 years old, and have had my scalp hair grow back once when I was 18, but for the most always been bald with no eye brows. I have been fortunate to have always had my eyelashes and body hair (although the body hair gets splotchy). Up until last December, my body hair and lashes were super thick but then started losing body hair again. Now my lashes on my left eye are almost all gone, and noticing major bald patches on my body again (I was completely AU from ages 14-16). My alopecia is really flaring up over the past few months, and I'm also having some major acne in a severity I've never had. I use to be on birth control from 18-28 and had no real problems with the alopecia effecting my hair lashes. I'm starting to wonder if the major alopecia assault that's been happening over the past year is hormone related. Has anyone experienced any regrowth of even just stabilized the hair loss while on birth control? I'm worried I may have PCOS, though I've always had regular periods. I also read others say the hair loss was worse in their 30s, and I turned 30 last year, is there a relationship there? Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

I went to a patient support group meeting last week in London, UK... I have a scarring alopecia, something the 3 derms were talking abuot was that women with frontal fibrosing alopecia have abnormal hormone levels both post and pre menopause.  The derms doing research into this type of hair loss are asking us if we have used the birth control pill and if so which one/s and for how long... So, yes I think for some women and some types of hair loss there is likley to be a hormonal element to this.

Thank you Debs for the information, much appreciated :)
