I dont know where to start

My 11 year old stepson's hair started falling out 2 weeks ago. It fell out at the crown and goes in a striped pattern. It had stopped until I think he started wearing a toboggan daily. Now it is
Almost completely gone in the middle. I had blood work done today, but we just don't know what is going on or what to do! Help! He's upset and afraid and I have no answers. He entails to shave it, but we are afraid it will cause more attention to it.
