Hi,

I am 27 years old and noticed a bald spot on my beard about 4 months ago. I have a very thick beard so I noticed it. From there it grew to about the size of a quarter. Then I got another smaller spot around my jaw line. Frome there more spots have been popping up on my beard.

I have a total of around 10 spots now on my beard. Most are small and about the size of a pea. But I have about 4 spots that are the size of a nickel to a quarter. So 4 big spots with 6 small spots.

Anyways the small spots are on my chin and trying to "join" each other it seems to make one huge spot perhaps in the future?

Ok so I have done a ton of research it and seems like 80-85% of cases go away on their own within 8-12 months. Reading these forums it seems most people have this problem and it only gets worse. But im sure that's because people who get rid of the problem forget about it and move on with life.

But my concern is could this be a symptom of something bigger like cancer? I have read it can be but like 98% of cases are harmless and unknown causes. Should I be concerned about cancer or should I just go to the Derm? If so can he do blood work there or should I see a doc before I see a Derm?

I dont have any spots on my head thank god and my hair is very thick. However of course I worry this could spread in my head too. But im pretty hopeful that this will go away eventually. It happened during a very stressful time in my life. Anyways is there really a pretty good chance this could reverse itself and regrow hair and I never have to deal with it again? I know there's no cure but I also know remission supposedly is more common than dealing with this forever. Any advice and I would be thankful :) Thanks

Go see a proper Dermatologist to get an opinion.

My started like that.  first it was a small spot in my beard.. went to the doctor and he said it was 'razor burn' (now I wanna know where he graduated from :)..... I continued as normal but within a few weeks I noticed my hair falling out.. I had really long hair at one time .. so it was noticeable.  I went to a dermatologist who told me what I had (Universalis).

I got my buddy to shave my head.. and yep..there were many 'bald spots'.... the rest fell out within weeks..

That being said -- your case could be something else.. hence my suggesting you go to a dermatologist.
