I need some advice on vacuum wigs!

Can someone please help me ???? My hair loss is getting to the point where Im going to have to just shave my really thin hair off and wear a wig, but Im soooo terrified of the severe depression that will follow ! I need all the advise I can get on the perfect wig to buy. I have been reading on the vacuum wigs. Anyone have one ? Im scared to death the make the mistake and buy the wrong one or a poorly made one. Thank you for any help y'all can give me !

Hi Sheryl

My daughter has worn a 'freedom' Vacuum wig for 7 years, so I understand this type of prosthesis. I think it may be helpful to pop in and talk to the ladies that have worn them for a longtime cherylnz, anna fitzpatrick. Also go to the group 'alopecians who have a freedom wig! (or are getting one)'.

(For the ladies I have suggeted just do a member search to find them.)

I will put a friend request into you as I have my page set to private. Then you will be able to come in and say hello and ask as many questions as you need to.

I'm sure you will find lots of help from these ladies and the group I have suggested.

Just as a footnote - in my experience once the decision has been made to shave your head (and I know it's a difficult one) people often find relieve that they have taken back a little control off this difficult condition.

Hi Sheryl, I just got my first Vaccum Wig in February. What can I say other than "I LOVE IT" its amazing, I wear it every single day. I was just saying how I forget I have it on until I look in the mirror. It is so comfortable you don't even feel it on your head. I used a lace wig with tape & glue for 4-5 yrs and I was just sick of it. One day I came across some information of vaccum wig and called, it took me another year to decide. But I'll tell you I don't kow why I waited it is the best, of course, it's only been a month. You probably have heard that it's a bit warm but nothing unbearable. I have an AW friend in Arizona that wears a vaccum wig and she says the same thing and I live in CT. So if you're trying to make a decision. Vaccum Wig has my vote hands down!! Let me know if I you have any questions. Hope you join us. There's a group here for people that have vaccum wigs or are planning on getting one, you should look it up - lots of info. Take care. Thank you soooo much Pat ! Can I ask what brand or company you bought yours from ? It does get really hot here starting late april till late october. I dont spend much time outside so Im not really worried about it. You mentioned a group who wear vacuum wigs that I can join. What is the name or link to that group. Girl.... I bought three cheap wigs and got them yesterday and just laughed when I saw them ! They are awful ! I dont mind spending several thousand dollars for a wig that will fool anyone to sees it ! Lol ! Do you have any photos or you in the wig that I can see ? Sooo happy you love yours ! That is the route I want to go when the time comes to shave my head.....Lord help me ! Lol ! Have a good day !

You are welcome!!! This is the group: alopecians who have a freedom wig! (or are getting one). Go o the tab that says "GROUP" and look for the group and join. I do have a picture here not that great but it's me. I know what you mean about cheap wigs. I got mine thru Freedom Wig - Debbi Fuller she's in NH - she was great. If you want to contact her - she advertises here on AW, tell her I told you to call her. You'll love her.

You're going to love your Freedom Wig. Who's your rep? Just wondering, I've had mine for almost 3 months and I LOVE IT. The hair is gorgeous and so easy to take care of and I never have a bad hair day. LOL!! It was raining here last week and I decided to make it curly and wild - I loved it. I put in some curlers (steam curlers) for like 2-3 minutes and WAHLA lovely. What length did you get? I have 8 inches. I got light density but wavy so it looks fuller. How long would you have to wait? Mine took a long time cause over the holiday the factory closes, etc. But it was worth the wait. Sorry for all the questions. take care. There are 2 things to think about. The cap is a special cap, and only works with no hair. The other is that the wigs are expensive in part because they only use good quality European Hair-any wig with that quality of hair will be very wonderful to have, irrespective of what kind of cap goes with it.

Hey, Donna...I hate to keep being stupid, but...I have jotten down your number and may call you. My question is this...why...why ...why...must you have no hair to wear a vacuum wig?? I don't need a wig to stay on during a tornado, or on a roller coaster, etc...you know the rest...why can I not still wear a vacuum wig?? I must be missing something. Just like the Amy's Prescence wigs...need to have no hair...why???

Hi, Sheryl. I wear a FW vacuum hair piece and they are truely the best! I've worn them since 2002 and is on my third one. They are expensive but, worth the investment. Here is a photo of me in my 14 inch FW in a ponytail. ~Holly
