It started last spring when i had very long hair. I that when i brushed or pulled tangles out of my hair alot of hair was coming out. I have very, very thick hair mind you. One day i felt the back of my head and there was a huge circular bald spot, smooth as a babies behind.

I figured i was just brushing too rough, or something. It now has a decent little amount of THIN hair coming in. My hair is dark brown, this hair is very light but has darkened over time. It's still a bald spot but there is alot of thin fine hair on the spot now.

It got worse. Just about 2 months ago i gave myself a haircut at home and when i was done i noticed 2 more bald spots. One is very tiny on the top of my head, and one is the size of a nickel on the side of my head. Both are still pretty bald.

This is when i started doing research and learned about Alopecia Areata which i believe i might have.

I've been to the doctors and have had bloodwork since the first incident and i'm fine, nothing sinister at work. But i haven't spoken with a doctor about the bald spots.

Does this sound like Alopecia Areata?

What should i do?

Sounds like alopecia. Talk to a dermatologist who has been working with alopecia clients for many years. The local support group should be able to suggest a good one: www.naaf.org.

Thanks Aimee!

I wasn't even sure what kind of professional dealt with this. I see that it would be a dermatologist. I feel abit knowing that it could go away. But i'm not gonna get my hopes up or anything. I obviously need to see a dermatologist asap.

Thats the odd thing i keep reading about the disease, it's so unpredictable! It has so many effects.

Yes it does sounds like Alopecia. What do you do now, I would suggest going to a dermatologist and discuss your options from there. Remember to do what you feel comfortable doing and that hair doesn't define you or your beauty!
