I work at a customer-facing parcel service in Brighton, UK and our theme is purple. The whole shop is purple, our uniforms are purple and every day I wear a purple headscarf/turban to work. A lot of the time we have to go outside and promote the company and I feel that some people treat me differently because they notice that I have no hair or am wearing a purple turban..
Saying that, Brighton is a very liberal city and people can get away with wearing whatever they want here. I see guys with blue and red mohawks, people dressed up 1950's style with victory rolls, top hats, tattooed heads and all sorts..
But sometimes I just want to look normal.
So yesterday I took a big breath and wore my wig to work! I ordered a hairpiece from Heads High a month ago, and hadn't been able to pluck up the courage to wear it out. It's beautiful, made in exactly the same shade as my old hair, but longer than I could ever grow it. It's a wig for hats so you need to wear it under a hat, but that makes it super comfy.
I walked in like it was no big deal, and joked to everyone about how I was a new employee. I felt a little bit awkward but they all loved it, everyone said it really suited me and a couple said that they love to go out wearing wigs :)
I'm so pleased that I can switch styles so confidently now, being bald doesn't limit your style, it actually increases it! I feel confident enough to buy more wigs, hats and head scarves and play around with my style!
Here's a photo - it's a little blurry. I'm planning on getting a fedora next as my head was a little too warm in a woolly hat!
