I'm a 15 year old girl who was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in January of 2015. I use clobetasol regularly and have done one round of shots so far, but my doctor wants me to start immunotherapy. Has anyone done it? I don't want to be uncomfortable all of the time, you know? I have very sensitive skin anyways. I feel like a lab rat sometimes because there is no real cure and people are just testing things on me all of the time. If anyone knows the pros and cons of this treatment, that would be so helpful!

Hi, my daughter is 11 and has alopecia. We also used clobetosal and tried the steroid injections. Out of desperation we tried prednisone and it was the biggest mistake we could have made for her. She gained a lot of weight, developed a moon face, and overall health declined. It took three months for her to lose the moon face. She did begin to grow her hair back, but it fell out within a week of stopping the meds, so it wasn't worth it for her, just her experience.

Hi,

Don't worry, I know it can be tough. I would advise against the immunotherapy. It did make my hair grow back but then it all fell out after it grew back. Once you stop using the medicine, it falls out. Or your body may get use to it which was happened to me. It's not worth it honestly. By best advice is to try to get healthy and hope your body reacts to the positive changes.... more water.. no processed food.. no dairy.. lots of vegetables, fruit, high quality meat = real food. Do some exercise and think positively about it.  Also consider rubbing some essential oils on your head... there are some youtube videos about it. Don't stress out too much and make sure you get plenty of sleep. This is not a guaranteed cure but I know you will start to feel better if you try to get healthy from it... and your body may react in a positive way. U need to calm the inflammation down. Give it a shot and good luck, you're not alone!

Very good advise Jason!!
