Imuran (azathioprine) + prednisone treatment
Hi all,
I just recently saw a well respected immunologist and he suggested a course of action that I could take if I'm willing. He said that I could take prednisone (10mg/day) and Imuran (an immunosuppressant ). The idea is to use these two drugs together, most likely for 1-2 years. From what I've been able to find out it works quite well (a good % grow hair back), but there are risks and side effects that go with it.
I was just wondering if anyone had been treated in this, or a similar, way? If so, what were your experiences?

You will have to be on prednisone for the rest of your life with all of the side effects (leaving you open to all sorts of infections since prednisone is a corticosteroid used to suppress the immune system) for a few hairs to come back...
Recently I spoke with a friend from Harvard, who is an immunologist, and during the discussion of possible options for hair re-growth he said the only way to get hair back is to undergo a bone marrow transplant using an identical twin's bone marrow and then having to take anti-rejection medication for the rest of one's life. I guess we all just have to come to terms with being bald. Not to discourage you, but ask yourself... What are the risks for limited hair growth?
